On February 17, 2022, in the new issue of "Yang Lan Interview - Chaser of the Wind", Ma Yansong, the founder of MAD Architects, who is known as the most important voice and representative of the new generation of architects, was invited to see how he creates the "strangeness" of public buildings and explores the story behind the industry of architectural designers.

Born in Beijing, Ma Yansong has been criticizing and praising from the initial "only architect to become famous before the age of 30" to "the first Chinese architect to design overseas cultural landmarks" (Chicago's Lucas Museum of Narrative Art), but he insisted on his voice and used his unique ideas to draw a new future of Chinese tradition. Landscapes are now in the city, the artistic conception is imprinted in the heart, Ma Yansong broke the shackles of symbols and stereotypes, and used design to dialogue with the times, telling his architectural "philosophy".
In the program, Ma Yansong talked about the relationship between his works and Zaha style, the public's challenge to architectural aesthetics, the current loss, the difference between oriental aesthetics and Wang Shu, etc., and introduced the design concept of Baiziwan public rental housing, Quzhou Sports Park, Hutong Bubble and other projects.
As a Chinese architectural designer, Ma Yansong has his own deep insights into Chinese architectural design: "China has wanted to find its own characteristic buildings for a while, but I have always felt that it is not a good practice to take this simple traditional building directly to show. In fact, many masters have done this in the past, but today I am faced with the same problem, I will think about what the new Chinese architecture is like. I think that all the places where the concentrated civilizations burst out are testing grounds, and the Chinese people should experiment here, so that they can produce new things, produce their own language, and at the same time be understood by the world and create so-called new buildings. ”

Architect Ma Yansong
Ma Yansong is the founder and partner of MAD Architects, a professor at the Center for Architectural Design and Art Research of Beijing University of Civil Engineering and Architecture, and an honorary member of RIBA International. He has won the Young Architect Award of the New York Architectural Alliance, the first D21 Young Architect Award of China Architectural Design at Beijing Design Week, and several architectural awards.
