At present, Tesla's only gigafactory in China is located in Shanghai, which is also its first gigafactory overseas. The factory was officially selected and settled in 2018, and completed a series of land transfer, planning, approval, construction, acceptance and other work with high efficiency. The new car will be officially delivered at the beginning of 2020, and the main production models will be the Model 3 and Model Y, which will not only supply the local market in China, but also export to overseas markets such as Europe.
In 2021, Tesla's Shanghai Gigafactory will produce more than 480,000 new energy vehicles and export 160,000 vehicles, making it tesla's largest production and export base in the world.
Tesla's Fremont Gigafactory in the United States will produce 450,000 units per year in 2021. The Tesla "base camp", which was put into operation in 2012, is still 30,000 units behind the Shanghai Gigafactory after the expansion.

From the perspective of urban attributes, Shenyang already has a number of vehicle manufacturing enterprises with strong resources. SAIC-GM Beisheng Base and BMW Brilliance Dadong Factory are located in Dadong District, Shenyang City, which has a mature auto parts supporting system and a large number of skilled related industrial workers. For new vehicle plants, it is an extremely favorable surrounding environment.
However, it is worth mentioning that Shenyang is not a port city, and its geographical location is located in the northeast region, and the temperature drops sharply in winter, so if a new energy vehicle factory is built, the problem of exports and products overwintering is still debatable.
Earlier, Tesla also said it would set up a design center in China to design "electric vehicles for the international market."
