With the launch of a new Need for Speed, EA: plans to acquire more game studios

IT House reported on February 8 that EA recently disclosed its latest earnings report, and as you might suspect, Battlefield 2042 did not perform as well as the company had hoped. However, EA is optimistic about the future of the game. Even after so many months, lingering server and visual problems still plague Battlefield 2042. Hopefully, developer DICE will implement bug fixes as soon as possible before players move.

With the launch of a new Need for Speed, EA: plans to acquire more game studios

EA revealed that it is developing three or four games and is looking into acquiring other studios.

"We're going to launch a Need for Speed game, and there's three or four more that we haven't announced yet, but as you can imagine, we've been trying to find ways to grow our portfolio year over year through new games, new IP and expansions, and acquisitions, and right now we're in digestion mode, but that doesn't mean we're not going to keep an eye on everything in the future."

EA is the second largest publisher after Activision Blizzard, so it will be interesting to see which teams it considers acquiring. Bobby Kotick, the current head of Activision Blizzard, hinted that EA wants to buy one of his companies, but given EA's low cash reserves and market value, this appears to be an extension. However, by increasing stock options, a deal may be closed.

Lately, EA has struggled when it comes to its franchises like Battlefield and Need for Speed. They are disappointing both judgmental and commercial. Perhaps EA should focus on improving the quality of its gaming products before considering acquiring more studios.
