"Need for Speed 22" revealed: The background is a fictional Chicago, adding two-dimensional elements

Criterion Games is working on the next game for Need for Speed, and while EA has previously revealed that it will be released before the end of this fiscal year (April 2023), they have not officially announced the game. But now, journalist Jeff Grubb has revealed some information about the work.

Grubb recently revealed in one of his episodes that Autolog (the game's social system) will return in the new Need for Speed, a multiplayer hub of activity in the game that has appeared in several Need for Speed games in the past. Customization of vehicles and different parts will also return.

Interestingly, although Grubb said that the next game "Need for Speed" will adopt a photorealistic visual style like previous works, the game's graphics will also add some "anime two-dimensional elements" to this basis.

Grubb further revealed that the game will take place in Lake Shore City, a fictional version of Chicago. But Critterion is said to want to make it feel like a real city.

Last week, Grubb also broke the news that the new "Need for Speed" will not be released across generations (cross-gen), and the game will only land on the PS5/XSX/XSS/PC platform. EA hasn't set a release date for the new Need for Speed yet, but it's rumored that it's scheduled to go on sale in November this year.
