Alpine skiing originated in the Alps of Europe, also known as "Alpine skiing", is a sport that uses a fixed heel device to slide down the snow-covered slopes, known for its difficulty and ornamentation, so it is called the "crown jewel" of the Winter Olympics, and was listed as a winter Olympic event in 1936.

The vertical height difference of the downhill competition venue is usually more than 800 meters for men and more than 450 meters for women. The height difference between the slalom, the big slalom and the super slalom site ranges from 140 meters to 650 meters. In alpine skiing, athletes must cross a corresponding number of flag gates. Knocking down the flagpole is not a foul, and if you miss 1 flag gate, it is a foul regardless of the score.

The Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics alpine skiing event will be held at the National Alpine Ski Center "Xuefeiyan" in Yanqing, producing a total of 11 gold medals, including men's, women's downhill, super big slalom, big slalom, slalom, all-around 5 sub-events each, and mixed team events.

There are 153 men's and 153 women's alpine skiing events at the Beijing Winter Olympics, with a total of 306 places, and a delegation can get up to 22 places. Switzerland was the only delegation to receive all 22 places, Austria 20, France and the United States 17, Italy 16 and Norway 16. These teams are strong contenders for medals in the project.

Mikaela Severin of the United States, known as the "first person to go on alpine skiing tracks", began to practice skiing at the age of 2 and became the youngest slalom champion at the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics at the age of 18. She has since competed in the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics and won a gold medal in the Grand Slalom and a silver medal in the all-around.

The Winter Olympics double gold medalist won four medals at the 2021 World Championships, including one all-around gold medal. In her book of honors, she has recorded three World Cup overall titles, four World Championship slalom races, and she is the only athlete in history to win all six of the FIS Alpine Skiing World Cup.

Chinese athletes have not achieved well in alpine skiing. Wang Guizhen's 18th place in the women's s slalom at the 1980 Lake Placid Winter Olympics is still the best result for Chinese athletes at the Current Winter Olympics.

At the Beijing Winter Olympics, the Chinese Alpine Ski Team won 2 men and 2 women with a total of 4 places, setting a record for the largest number of places in the history of the Chinese team's participation in the Winter Olympics. Zhang Yangming, Xu Mingfu, Kong Fanying and Ni Yueming will participate in all 11 sub-events of alpine skiing, of which men and women's downhill, super big slalom, all-around and mixed teams are participating for the first time. The delegations of Hong Kong, China and Taipei of China each won 2 places, and Japan, an Asian alpine skiing powerhouse, won 3 places.
