Mercedes-Benz EQS, which starts at 1.07 million, why is it worth this price?

Is it because of the "bow body" with a wind resistance of 0.2?
"Three bars" meteor shower headlights and spiral taillights?
Or is it because of the 1.41-meter oversized curved screen?
In fact, the new EQS means much more to Mercedes-Benz than a car. So today I will talk about: Mercedes-Benz EQS, what is the competitiveness?
I'm Danny Jr., talking about cars and talking about technology.
Let's start with the first point:
Mercedes-Benz EQS meaning, more than one electric car,
It also represents the determination of the 136-year-old car inventor to transform "full electric".
On July 22 last year, Mercedes-Benz unveiled a particularly important "all-electric" transformation strategy.
The core point is one point: Mercedes-Benz will accelerate from EV-First to EV only, that is, "electric first" acceleration to "full electric"
This difference is like your family training from "wife first" to "the world only has wife you".
Before I saw Weilai Li Bin said that the threshold for new car manufacturing has been raised to 40 billion. Coincidentally, Mercedes-Benz will also invest 40 billion yuan in electric vehicles in 2022-2030, but the unit is euros, which is indeed full of determination.
It is worth noting that Mercedes-Benz showed 7 electric vehicles in this video of comprehensive electrification transformation.
Two of them were dressed in floral clothes, the EQE that had not yet been released at the time, and the SUV version of the EQS.
At the front, more conspicuous than the C position, is the million-class electric sedan EQS.
It's like the "vanguard" who held up the flag at the military training session and walked in the forefront, this time you know the great significance of EQS to Mercedes-Benz's "full electric" transformation.
Let's move on to the second point:
What are the highlights of EQS
Million electric vehicle EQS, rely on what to support their "vanguard" position? I'll elaborate on two highlights:
Bowed body
MBUX
First of all, the "bow-shaped body" used by Mercedes-Benz first, although there is some controversy about whether this shape is good-looking, it is undeniable that EQS, as the most important pure electric vehicle of Mercedes-Benz at present, makes its own design of a unique style, which is highly recognizable, and the bow-shaped body combines the "seamless" body design aesthetics, considering not only aesthetics, but also its two major functional considerations:
The cockpit is placed in front of the car, and the seating space in the car is more abundant.
EQS belongs to the S-Class in the field of Mercedes-Benz electric vehicles, the previous Mercedes-Benz S-Class is cool to sit up, but this time it is EQS that makes drivers and passengers feel good.
Reduces air resistance.
You must have heard of EQS's drag coefficient of 0.2, which is currently the first in the world's mass production vehicle wind resistance coefficient ranking, ahead of Weilai ET 7, Tesla Model S Plaid, Zhiji IM L7 and so on.
But to reduce the air resistance of a car, we not only look at the wind resistance coefficient, but also look at the orthographic projection area of the whole vehicle.
So what exactly is air resistance, wind resistance coefficient and vehicle orthographic projection area?
The aerodynamic force that a car is subjected to while driving can be divided into three forces:
Drag Force
Lift Force
Side Force
Wherein, the formula for air resistance D is: D = 1/2ρV · A· Cd
It can be seen that air resistance D is proportional to the air resistance coefficient Cd, the orthographic projection area of the car, the square V of the airflow velocity, and the air density ρ, which are closely related to the design of the car.
In other words, when the speed and air density are the same, the lower drag coefficient Cd, such as the minimum wind resistance coefficient of EQS production vehicles I said earlier is 0.2;
There is also a smaller orthographic projection area A, such as the effective air resistance area of EQS is only 0.5 square meters, which will make the driving air resistance D smaller.
What are the benefits of reducing air resistance D?
Boost acceleration
You see this dude bike accelerates so fast, in fact, through lower wind resistance and orthographic projection area to achieve.
Increase battery life
A pure electric car with a range of 700 kilometers, for every 10% reduction in wind resistance, the cruising range of normal driving can be increased by about 3%; under high-speed isometric conditions, the endurance can be increased to about 8%.
Frankly speaking, the acceleration of EQS is not its biggest advantage, the acceleration of 100 kilometers is 4.4 seconds, which is related to the positioning of Mercedes-Benz S-class products, to see the acceleration, I am actually more looking forward to the future Mercedes-Benz AMG electric model.
The EQS endurance data is indeed amazing, equipped with an NCM811 ternary lithium battery of up to 111.8 kWh, achieving a maximum cruising range of 849 km under CLTC conditions and 770 km under WLTP conditions.
What is this concept?
I have said before in the podcast program of "Big and Small Horse Talk Technology", many people say that the electric vehicle mileage anxiety problem, but my experience is that the range is more than 400 kilometers, driving in the city is basically no mileage anxiety; the endurance is more than 600 kilometers, driving high speed there is no mileage anxiety.
That Mercedes-Benz EQS range of about 800 kilometers, it can be said that completely goodbye to mileage anxiety, unless you are the kind of mobile phone power left 1% to remember to charge, this I can not save you.
By the way, I see that many people can't distinguish the working conditions of the battery life, such as clTC, WLTP, as well as NEDC, EPA and so on.
In fact, as an ordinary consumer, you don't need to know where these working conditions standards come from, how the specific test indicators are, you just need to remember a formula: EPA> WLTP> NEDC>CLTC, which is sorted according to the rigor of the test standards.
For example, the same manufacturer claims to have an endurance of 500 kilometers, the real endurance situation is EPA> WLTP> NEDC >CLTC, such as the real endurance of EPA may be 490 kilometers, but CLTC is also 430 kilometers, so the next time you buy a car, don't just look at the battery life data marked by the manufacturer, more importantly, look at the small print below, in the end according to which working conditions standard.
For example, EQS not only provides CLTC data, but also provides WLTP data, plus Mercedes-Benz's electric vehicle mileage calibration, has always been more realistic, so I am still looking forward to the real endurance of this car, if you are also just interested in letting me rush a mass-produced version of EQS, you can help me in the comment area @ Mercedes-Benz brother.
To say that the "killer" of Mercedes-Benz EQS must be this 1.41-meter MBUX super screen, which looks like Curry's three-pointer, James's chase hat, and Kobe's picturesque back-up jumper.
This MBUX super-screen actually consists of three screens:
12.3-inch LCD LCD instrument cluster in the left main car,
Middle 17.7-inch OLED screen,
and the co-pilot front 12.3-inch OLED screen.
The three screens fit perfectly with a custom Corning Gorilla Glass surface, making it almost impossible to see the connecting boundary between the screen and the glass.
What is even more exaggerated is that this piece of glass is still curved, which is both beautiful and solves the problem of viewing angle.
As the Spanish architect Antonio Gaudí said, "Straight lines belong to man, curves belong to God." ”
Later, I learned that the EQS MBUX super screen began to be designed as early as 2016.
And it is a completely innovative product that requires collaboration involving various departments and suppliers of Mercedes-Benz,
This is the first prototype of MBUX Superlink:
The biggest challenge was to make the screen both aesthetic and safe.
Aesthetics have a lot of details to pay attention to, such as making the screen and glass seamless before, so that the black is integrated, and there can be no colorful black.
There must also be no ugly "big bangs" like the new Macbook Pro.
Not to mention the "big chin" that the iMac can stop the aircraft carrier,
This is certainly unacceptable for a curved screen of 1.41 meters in a car.
Mercedes-Benz's MBUX super screen is in cooperation with LG, and many versions have been iterated during this period.
The result is a yacht cockpit-like experience.
Speaking of safety, this screen can not only work for a long time from minus 40 degrees Celsius to 85 degrees Celsius, but also be backed by five special brackets of honeycomb structure, directly connecting the MBUX super-joint screen to the cockpit beam to avoid damage caused by collisions.
Of course, nothing is perfect, such as the Tubing Big V MKBHD in the evaluation video, the UI design of the car system can be re-optimized, the aesthetic is not matched with the high standards of its hardware, of course, this is also a matter of benevolence and wisdom.
乔布斯曾说: "Design is not just what it looks like and feels like. Design is how it works."
When I get the EQS production car in the future, I can retest a wave.
Let's move on to the third point:
Mercedes Electric Classification
You may be familiar with Mercedes-Benz fuel vehicles, but you may not necessarily understand the planning of Mercedes-Benz electric vehicles.
The familiar Mercedes-Benz, AMG, Maybach, and EQ series are actually Mercedes-Benz AG that belongs to the To C business.
At present, the EQ series has produced EQC, EQA, EQB and the EQS I focused on today, all of which belong to the Mercedes-Benz EQ series and are also Made to C electric vehicles.
If you are interested in the specific details of Mercedes-Benz To C and To B, you can take a screenshot of this picture.
Some time ago, Mercedes-Benz also released a new concept car EQXX. Although it is a concept car, in fact, I think this car is very close to the mass production form.
And it is said that EQXX from design to completion close to mass production, it took only one and a half years, compared with the usual 2-3 years of development time of a car, a lot shorter.
This is also due to the establishment of the future Mercedes-Benz next-generation MMA platform, namely Mercedes-Benz Modular Architecture, to serve small and medium-sized cars.
By the way, Mercedes-Benz also has an EVA platform, a platform for large cars and SUVs, and the EQS, EQE, EQS SUVs, etc. I talked about before are all based on the EVA platform.
After talking about Mercedes, it is time to talk to you most, little Danny Q&A:
What is a smart car?
I've always had viewers ask me this question before.
First of all, I would like to say that distinguishing whether a car is smart is not according to the power mode, for example, not that fuel vehicles are not smart, nor are electric vehicles smart.
It's just that it's easier to be intelligent on electric vehicles, and electric vehicles are the future instead of fuel vehicles, so manufacturers will put their most advanced intelligent technology on electric vehicles, such as Mercedes-Benz EQS, which I focused on today.
In addition, distinguish whether a car is smart, but also not to see the price point, such as cars below 200,000 must not be smart, cars above 200,000 must be smart, but high-priced cars can give manufacturers the space to try new technologies is relatively large,
For example, the EQS I focused on today, since the price point is more than one million, it is currently the most expensive mass-produced pure electric vehicle of Mercedes-Benz, and naturally you can put the most cutting-edge intelligent functions of Mercedes-Benz on the EQS, in addition to the bow body I talked about before, MBUX super-screen, as well as the world's first internationally certified L3 level auxiliary driving system, four-wheel steering technology, artificial intelligence interaction system and so on.
Since you don't look at the power mode, nor do you look at the price level, what to look at?
You can refer to the model proposed by Lu Qi, the world of Qi performance:
The core of intelligence is still around "human needs", in other words, the ultimate goal of any intelligence is to help humans solve a problem, just like a person's heart.
The so-called intelligence is nothing more than digitizing in 6 dimensions, including obtaining information, expressing information, storing information, transmitting information, processing information and delivering information, which are like a person's skeleton and constitute an intelligent architecture.
For example, the various radar cameras on the car belong to "obtaining information"; the interface design of the car machine belongs to the expression of information.
Looking at the outer layer, data is blood, software is blood vessels, through algorithms, computing power, and finally realize the matching of requirements and tasks, forming a closed loop of the entire intelligent system.
The "smart electric vehicle" we see now is actually a crystallized product that is both mass-produced and intelligent, and integrates human wisdom, including all the contents of this picture.
I especially recommend that you have the opportunity to try the "smart electric car", anyway, test drive and no money, right?
"Smart electric vehicle" can be divided into three words "smart", "electric" and "car", if you order these three words according to importance, how will you arrange it?
I think the importance of 5 years ago was: car > electric > smart
Now, the importance is: car = electric = smart
But after 5 years, intelligence must be the most important, just like the current mobile phone, calling and texting has become a secondary function, whether it is smart or not, is the decisive factor for consumers to buy.
Speaking of intelligence, the first function that everyone thinks of is automatic assisted driving, whether it is Tesla FSD in the United States, Wei Xiaoli's performance in China, or Mercedes-Benz's assisted driving in Germany won the world's first L3 system international certification, the performance of intelligent parking system in China, the user experience of MBUX intelligent human-computer interaction system, are very worthy of everyone's continued attention, I will continue to share the most cutting-edge information with you in the future video and podcast "Big and Small Horse Chat Technology".
Which car do you want to hear me talk about, which technology? Welcome to leave me a message, if this episode of the video is helpful to you, don't forget to help me like and follow. I'm Danny Jr., talk about cars and technology, we'll see you in the next episode.
