According to Strategy Analytics, global laptop sales in 2021 are up another 19 percent from 2020, again reaching a record 268 million units.

Among them, Lenovo still dominates, shipping a total of 63.4 million units in 2021, with an annual growth rate of 16% and a market share of 24%;

HP ranked second, shipping 59 million units in the whole year, with an annual growth rate of 14% and a market share of 22%;

Dell ranked third, shipping 45.7 million units in the whole year, with an annual growth rate of 29% and a market share of 17%;

Apple ranked fourth, shipping 24.4 million units in the whole year, with an annual growth rate of 26% and a market share of 9%;

Acer ranked third, shipping 20.1 million units in the whole year, with an annual growth rate of 23% and a market share of 7%.

Analyst Chirag Upadhyay said: "This is another strong quarter for laptops, ending another strong year. The continued demand for hybrid work environments has supported growth in developed markets, while also being driven by the attractively priced products of Window 11 and DaaS. Emerging markets are driven by continued demand from SMEs, while consumers continue to shift to mobility. In addition, due to parts shortages and supply issues, orders delayed from the third quarter of 2021 have been completed in the fourth quarter.

Eric Smith, director of connected computing services at Strategy Analytics, said that as demand for Chromebooks slows in the second half of 2021, demand for Windows begins to grow in Q4 2021. The Upgrade to Windows 11 Enterprise provides a powerful boost to Windows laptops.

Microsoft's recent windows 11 SE for K-8 education has also attracted top PC vendors in response to the surge in Chrome's market share during the pandemic.
