The torch fuel uses hydrogen fuel, achieving zero combustion emissions. Hydrogen combustion generally produces high temperatures above 800 degrees Celsius.
Although the upstream team has solved the problems of high temperature resistance and combustion resistance of carbon fiber composite materials through process innovation, the flame retardant work of the whole torch is still crucial, which is related to the overall integrity and fire resistance of the torch when the flame is transmitted.
"Because the company is second to none in terms of flame retardancy and safety of auto parts, we have become the only enterprise to undertake the torch flame retardant project after being recommended by the China Automobile Industry Association and repeatedly inspected and inspected by the Beijing Olympic Organizing Committee and the International Olympic Organizing Committee." Huang Weijian introduced that the first problem faced by the team was how to perfectly stitch together two irregularly shaped embryos. After splicing, the interface is obvious, and the embryo of the carbon fiber weave is relatively rough, and it is necessary to repair the surface defects with a high-temperature patch as a whole, and then carefully polish it to make the torch smooth and flat, and finally use a high-tech manipulator to spray the special flame retardant paint that can withstand thousands of degrees of high temperature baking on the torch, and finally make the torch present the most perfect state when the flame is passed.
Seemingly simple manipulator spraying, in fact, there is a lot of dry inside. The standard thickness of the coating is 5 microns, and the allowable deviation is within plus or minus 1 micron, which is a huge challenge. "5 microns is equivalent to one-eighteenth of a human hair, too thin to crack, too thick will burn, only such a thickness can ensure the safety of the torch." Huang Weijian said.
In the past, the spraying process used on auto parts allowed deviations of about 10 microns. In order to meet the demanding standards of torch design requirements, the company conducted a new research and development of the spraying process, dozens of combustion tests, and finally quenched out a special process only for the torch.
From october 2020, gondon immediately set up a team to tackle the torch. Splicing, repairing, polishing, painting, more than 20 technical backbones formed four teams to promote the work.
"The moment I received the task, everyone was very excited. But when you see the technical parameters and design requirements, you know that this is a very big challenge, the biggest challenge at that time is that the outer streamer of the torch is a very flowing irregular shape, the spray gun must control the path according to its shape, and the spacing from the product must be very accurate to ensure the uniformity of the coating.
