Today, the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games (hereinafter referred to as the Beijing Winter Olympics) officially opened.

It is understood that the Beijing Winter Olympics will become the first Olympic event to truly achieve "carbon neutrality". Previously, the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games Low-Carbon Management Work Plan issued by the Beijing Winter Olympics Organizing Committee identified 18 carbon emission reduction measures and 4 "carbon neutrality" measures to comprehensively achieve 100% renewable energy to meet the conventional electricity consumption needs of venues, and promote new energy vehicles in various competition areas, and actively promote the demonstration application of hydrogen fuel vehicles that meet the relevant model catalogs.

According to the data released by the Beijing Winter Olympic Organizing Committee, the Beijing Winter Olympics will demonstrate the operation of more than 1,000 hydrogen energy vehicles, equipped with more than 30 hydrogen refueling stations, which is the world's largest fuel cell vehicle demonstration. This also makes hydrogen fuel cell vehicles a bright color in the green Winter Olympics, and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles from Toyota Motor, BAIC Group, Yutong Bus, Foton Motor and other car companies have actively invested in the Beijing Winter Olympics.

Capital Securities Research Report believes that the Beijing Winter Olympics will fully demonstrate the potential of hydrogen energy applications, rapidly improve hydrogen energy awareness, and benefit the promotion of industrialization. According to the Society of Automotive Engineers of China, by 2030, the output value of the mainland hydrogen energy vehicle industry is expected to exceed the trillion yuan mark.

Car companies compete for hydrogen energy vehicles

As a global partner of the Olympic and Paralympic Games, Toyota is a major vehicle supplier for the Beijing Winter Olympic Games. It is reported that Toyota has officially delivered 2,200 new energy vehicles to the Beijing Winter Olympics Organizing Committee, including the second-generation MIRAI of Toyota's FCEV model, which was first put into large-scale use in China, and the Costa hydrogen engine specially developed and designed for the exchange meeting.

According to the official statistics of the Beijing Winter Olympic Organizing Committee, as of now, among the transportation service vehicles used for the Beijing Winter Olympic Games, the energy-saving and clean energy vehicles provided by Toyota account for 100% of the passenger cars and 85.84% of all vehicles, which is the highest in the previous Winter Olympics.

At the same time, as a result of Toyota's cooperation with Beijing Motor Co., Ltd. and Beijing Yihuatong Technology Co., Ltd., the Beijing Winter Olympics will also use more than 200 Beiqi Foton hydrogen fuel cell buses equipped with Toyota's hydrogen fuel cell system.

As the local "host", BAIC Group's models have also been riveted to help the Beijing Winter Olympics. It is reported that BAIC Group has 212 hydrogen-fueled buses and 330 electric vehicles serving the Beijing Winter Olympics. BAIC Group said that the vehicles that serve as service guarantees have undergone tests such as low temperature cold start, low temperature mileage, and low temperature temperature rise performance, and 100% meet and exceed all testing standards.

To help the Beijing Winter Olympics, commercial vehicle companies are not to be outdone. In the Beijing Winter Olympic Games, there are 1223 Foton Ouhui buses to provide support for the Winter Olympics, of which 515 are hydrogen fuel buses, accounting for up to 80% of the hydrogen fuel buses that provide guarantees for the Winter Olympics, setting a record for the largest scale and the largest number of models of international sports events in the history of hydrogen fuel bus services; Yutong Bus will provide more than 700 vehicles including hydrogen fuel buses and T7 to provide travel guarantees for the event at the Beijing Winter Olympics.

The hydrogen energy industry has arrived

Riding on the east wind of the Beijing Winter Olympics, the hydrogen energy industry began to "accelerate the run". In fact, under the continuous help of favorable policies and the promotion of the "double carbon" goal, the hydrogen energy industry has already ushered in a development boom and has become a new outlet. In March 2021, hydrogen energy was officially included in the draft outline of the 14th Five-Year Plan. As of 2021, the mainland government has supported more than 2 billion yuan in hydrogen energy and fuel cell research and development funds; in December 2021, the "14th Five-Year Plan for Industrial Green Development" issued by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology also proposes to accelerate hydrogen energy technology innovation and infrastructure construction, and promote the diversified use of hydrogen energy.

By the end of 2021, 16 provinces and cities across the country, including Beijing, Shandong, Hebei, Tianjin, Sichuan, Zhejiang and Ningxia, have formulated hydrogen energy development plans. In November 2021, Shanghai issued the "Several Policies on Supporting the Development of the Fuel Cell Vehicle Industry in Shanghai", and it is planned that by the end of 2025, the Shanghai municipal finance will make a 1:1 ratio of funds in accordance with the national fuel cell vehicle demonstration central financial incentive fund, and make overall arrangements for the special support funds for the development of fuel cell vehicles in the city, and arrange them in the special funds for energy conservation and emission reduction in Shanghai, focusing on supporting vehicle demonstration applications, industrialization of key core technologies, talent introduction and team building. At the same time, the demonstration application of fuel cell vehicles in the Shanghai urban agglomeration was launched for the first time, marking that the development of fuel cells in the mainland has officially entered the demonstration application stage.

According to the forecast of the China Hydrogen Energy Alliance, by 2030, China's hydrogen demand will reach 35 million tons, accounting for 5% of the terminal energy system; by 2050, the demand will reach 60 million tons (equivalent to 292.68% in 2020), accounting for 10% of the terminal energy system, which can reduce about 700 million tons of carbon dioxide, and the output value of the industrial chain will reach 12 trillion yuan / year; the national hydrogen refueling station will reach more than 10,000 seats, and the output of fuel cell vehicles will reach 5.2 million / year. The fuel cell system has a production capacity of 5.5 million units per year.

According to the "China Hydrogen Energy Industry Development Report 2020", China's hydrogen fuel cell vehicle ownership will increase from 7352 in 2020 to 100,000 in 2025, and the market size of hydrogen fuel cell vehicles is expected to reach 80 billion yuan by 2025.

China Merchants Securities Research Report believes that hydrogen energy, as a clean and zero-carbon secondary energy source, occupies an important position in the future energy reform and will undertake the mission of helping to achieve the goal of "double carbon". The development stage of hydrogen fuel cell vehicles is similar to that of pure electric vehicles in 2010, at the technical level, priority is given to the promotion of commercial vehicles, and the promotion and application of commercial vehicles to further promote the large-scale application of passenger cars, and the expected annual compound growth rate of hydrogen fuel cell vehicles in the next five years is expected to reach 68%.

In the view of Zhou Ershuang, an analyst at Soochow Securities Securities, hydrogen fuel cell vehicles are in a period of rapid introduction, because the industry is still in the early stage of industrialization, the phenomenon of head shuffling occurs frequently, with the determination of technical routes and the formation of scale effects in market demand, it is optimistic that the advantages of forward-looking layout will take the lead in highlighting the siege.
