Located in Ningnan County, Liangshan Prefecture, Sichuan Province, and Qiaojia County, Zhaotong City, Yunnan Province, the Baihetan Hydropower Station has a freshly baked "10,000-layer cake", which is nearly 4 meters high, more than 15 meters in diameter and weighs 1274 tons.
This is not a pie made of noodles, but the heaviest and largest core component of the generator set - the rotor. It is made of more than 20,000 pieces of magnetic yoke steel sheets stacked on top of each other.
This "10,000-layer cake" is not simple, the 20,000-layer behemoth will eventually turn up, and the speed will reach 111 laps per minute, which is equivalent to a rapid rotation at a speed of 345 kilometers per hour, similar to the speed of high-speed rail.
If the more than 20,000 layers of magnetic yoke steel sheets are uneven and uneven, the weight of the entire rotor is uneven, and the huge centrifugal force when rotating at high speed will cause damage to related parts and threaten the safety of the entire generator set. But in order to make more than 20,000 layers of steel sheets piled up and still evenly flat, each layer must be extremely evenly leveled, which is a difficult technology.
20 years ago, the Three Gorges Dam could only import the "layer" of this "10,000-layer cake" from abroad, and foreign manufacturers could control the unevenness of each layer within 6 mm. But now, our generator set is getting bigger and bigger, the motor of Baihetan Hydropower Station has the world's largest rotor, the larger the rotor, the higher the flatness requirements for each layer, and the foreign yoke steel sheet cannot meet our requirements.
In order to completely solve this "stuck neck" problem, Taiyuan Iron and Steel Group went up to countless tests to find the optimal ratio of the composition of the yoke steel sheet, overcome a number of technical problems, and reduced the unevenness of the yoke steel sheet by 5 mm to less than 1 mm in one fell swoop. Not only that, the high-strength seismic steel of large-scale hydropower stations on the mainland, the high-grade hydropower steel plate with large thickness, and the high-grade silicon steel have all got rid of the situation of dependence on imports. The steel industry has become a strong backing for the million kilowatts of hydropower units to climb to the top of the world.
We in China have never only made bread, not painted cakes.
This "10,000-layer cake" is our ambition!
