Zhou Hongxing was born on February 18, 1936 in Da'an City, Jilin Province. From 1949 to 1956, he finished primary and secondary school in Shenyang, Liaoning Province. With excellent results in the northeast region, he was admitted to the department of Chinese of Peking University, the highest liberal arts institution in the mainland. After graduating from Peking University in the autumn of 1961, he taught at Chinese Min University.
