Sony announced in its quarterly financial results ended December 31, 2021 that the PlayStation 5 has shipped 17.2 million units worldwide, while the PlayStation 4 has shipped 116.8 million units.
As of December 31, 2021, the PS5 had shipped a total of 3.9 million units in the three months preceding it, compared to 200,000 units for the PS4. Shipments decreased from 4.5 million units to 3.9 million units, or 600,000 units less, compared to the same period last fiscal year. Shipments of the PS4 were reduced from 1.4 million to 200,000 units, 1.2 million units less.

As of December 31, 2021, the number of PlayStation Plus users was 48 million, up 600,000 from 47.4 million in the same period of the previous fiscal year.
PS5 and PS4 software sold a combined 92.7 million copies in the third quarter of fiscal 2021, down 11.5 million from 104.2 million copies sold in the same period of the previous fiscal year. Of those, 11.3 million were first-party games, down 7.7 million from 19 million in the same period last fiscal year.
Of all software sales, 62 percent of all software sales are downloads of the game's digital version, up from just 53 percent last year.
