Foreign media VGChartz recently estimated PS5 sales through February 2022 and compared it with the same period of PS4. The PS5 was released in November 2020 and the PS4 was released in November 2013, so the Christmas slot cycles that the two went through corresponded to.
February 2022 is the 16th month of the PS5's launch. In contrast, the PS4's 16th month sales were 530736 units higher than the PS5's 16th month sales. In the comparison of sales in the same period in the last 12 months, PS4 sales are 1644354 units ahead. In the 16-month total sales comparison for the same period, the PS4 led 1809479 units.
After 16 months on the market, the PS5 sold 18043338 units, while the PS4 sold 19852817 units after 16 months of listing. PS4 sales exceeded 20 million in 17 months of listing, 30 million in 25 months, and 40 million in 31 months. To date, the total sales of PS4 are 116 million units.
