Geely enters the Korean market: The Chinese electric vehicle Polestar 2 lands in South Korea

According to the website of South Korea's JoongAng Daily, a few days ago, the emerging electric vehicle brand Polestar released its first pure electric vehicle for the Korean market - Polestar 2. Polestar, a global high-performance electric vehicle brand owned by Volvo Car Group and Chinese parent company Geely Holdings, established a wholly owned subsidiary in South Korea in March last year.

The PoleStar 2 launched in the Korean market this time adopts a unique 5-door fast-back body design, and the model can be divided into two versions according to the different powertrains: single motor and dual motor.

The single-motor model has a maximum output of 231 horsepower, can travel 417 kilometers continuously on a single charge, and it takes only 30 minutes from 10% to 80% charging. The dual-motor version has a maximum output of 408 horsepower, accelerates from 100 km/h in just 4.7 seconds, and can travel 334 km on a single charge. Both are equipped with 78 kWh lithium batteries produced by LG New Energy.

Han Zhongsong, general manager of Polarstar Korea, said at a press conference held at the Wave Art Center in Seoul that safety is the biggest advantage of Polestar 2. "We have spared no effort to enhance the safety of the Polestar 2," he said, "and it has obtained 5 stars in european safety tests, and the overall results are better than similar models." ”

Equipped with an infotainment system developed by Swedish TMAP, Polar star 2 is able to provide drivers with a variety of smart services, such as battery reminders and searching for the location of nearby charging facilities.

The single-motor PoleStar 2 starts at 54.9 million won ($46,100), which is apparently priced to receive full subsidies from the South Korean government. According to a recently revised law by South Korean officials, only vehicles worth less than 55 million won can receive full subsidies. The dual-motor version starts at KRW 57.9 million.

The new car is available in 6 colors without adding money, which the company says is a special offer for Customers in South Korea. In the United States, black is the standard color, and there is an additional charge of $1200 to choose another color.

The company plans to sell 40,000 Polestar2s in South Korea this year, and plans to launch a new electric vehicle every year for the next three years. At present, Korean consumers can already order on the website of Polarstar Korea Branch, and the new car will be delivered from mid-March this year. (Compilation/Ling Feng)
