Hot spot | SAIC-GM-Wuling new round of recall drop hammer There are problems with the transmission of more than 600,000 Hongguang models

The New Round of Recall that SAIC-GM-Wuling, which was disclosed by the Economic Observer Network half a month ago, was officially dropped on January 27. The State Administration for Market Regulation issued an announcement that SAIC-GM-Wuling decided to recall some Wuling Hongguang S3 and new Wuling Hongguang S produced between July 10, 2017 and March 26, 2021, from March 10, 2022, for a total of 609,700 vehicles.

There are already signs of this recall. On a number of domestic automobile complaint websites, consumer complaints against the Wuling Hongguang series models are very intensive, of which the complaints in 2021 mainly revolve around the engines and transmissions of the 2019-2021 Wuling Hongguang products.

On January 13, the Economic Observer Network reporter reported that in response to the transmission failure with a high complaint rate of Wuling Hongguang, SAIC-GM-Wuling has been evaluating the impact and discussing solutions internally, and it is likely that after the recall of millions of vehicles in July 2021, a large-scale recall will be launched again in the first quarter of this year, the number may reach hundreds of thousands, and the products involved are mainly 6-speed manual models.

Consistent with the situation previously learned by the Economic Observer Network reporter, SAIC-GM-Wuling launched this recall indeed because some of The Wuling Hongguang's transmissions have problems, and mainly for 6-speed manual models.

According to the announcement of the State Administration for Market Regulation, within the scope of this recall, the manual transmission parts of Wuling Hongguang S3 and new Wuling Hongguang S cars are manufactured in size, resulting in insufficient gear retention, and under specific working conditions, it may cause 6-speed occasional diseggregation, resulting in temporary power transmission interruptions in vehicles, and there may be safety hazards in extreme cases.

As a solution, SAIC-GM-Wuling will conduct free inspections of vehicles within the scope of the recall and replace transmission repair components free of charge for vehicles that are confirmed to be defective after inspection to eliminate safety hazards.

Counting the last recall, SAIC-GM-Wuling launched a recall of more than 2 million vehicles in just about half a year. This is not only in the field of independent brands, but even in the entire domestic automobile field, which is an extremely rare scale.

In July 2021, SAIC-GM-Wuling announced a recall of 1,436,997 vehicles, involving Wuling Zhiguang, Wuling Rongguang Series, Wuling Hongguang Series and other models, and the reason for the recall was that some of the vehicles involved had "insufficient wear resistance of the engine crankcase forced ventilation valve spool", which was a safety hazard.

Compared with the recall in July 2021, this recall has one more sentence, "The recall activity was carried out under the circumstance that the State Administration for Market Supervision and Administration launched a defect investigation, and affected by the investigation, SAIC-GM-Wuling Automobile Co., Ltd. decided to take recall measures to eliminate potential safety hazards." This reflects that this recall is not a completely active choice of SAIC-GM-Wuling.

According to the data, the cumulative sales volume of SAIC-GM-Wuling in 2021 is about 1.76 million vehicles. In other words, the number of vehicles recalled in the last two times has far exceeded the annual sales of SAIC-GM-Wuling in 2021.

The recall of more than 600,000 vehicles by SAIC-GM-Wuling is also part of a large-scale recall of more than 1.5 million domestic vehicles on January 27. In addition to SAIC-GM-Wuling, FAW Toyota, GAC Toyota, Chery, FAW-Volkswagen, Beijing Benz, Mercedes-Benz China and other car companies launched a new round of recall plans on January 27.

In the new round of recalls, FAW-Volkswagen and Chery launched the recall in a similar context to SAIC-GM-Wuling, which was not led by car companies, but was "carried out in the case of a defect investigation initiated by the State Administration for Market Regulation".

Among them, FAW-Volkswagen recalled vehicles including 453,700 domestic Audi Q5L and 368 imported Audi SQ5, both of which were recalled due to the risk of short circuit in the gateway control module; Chery recalled vehicles including 121,800 Arrizo 5 and 24,700 Tiggo 7, both models recalled due to insufficient transmission cooling tubing strength, there is a risk of cracking and oil leakage.

In addition, FAW Toyota will recall 162,300 Corollas, GAC Toyota will recall 161,600 Leiling, the reasons for the recall of these two sister models are due to deviations in the size of the 1-level coil bracket inside the ignition coil, and there is a risk of vehicle stalling; Beijing Benz and Mercedes-Benz China will recall 41 CLA and 385 C-class and E-class, within the scope of the recall, there is a risk of interruption in the power supply of the CLA electric steering power system, and the C-class and E-class do not meet the relevant requirements of the national mandatory standards for vehicle air suspension.
