China Mobile: Caller ID fees will be phased out within 3-5 years

Beijing News Shell Financial News (reporter promised) On January 28, in response to the question of "when can the caller ID fee be cancelled", China Mobile responded exclusively to the Beijing News Shell financial reporter that the company has stopped selling caller ID charging tariffs on the whole network since April 1, 2016. In the next stage, China Mobile will continue to actively communicate with some customers who use the old package and gradually cancel the caller ID fee within 3-5 years.

Caller ID, also known as calling number display, refers to the service function of the system to provide customers with and display the phone number of the caller when the mobile phone is called. A few days ago, on January 24, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology said in response to the messages of netizens on the People's Network's "Leadership Message Board" that the caller ID fee is not priced by the government, and currently only exists in some old package users who have not been transferred and have been discontinued, accounting for less than 2%. The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology said that it will continue to promote basic telecommunications enterprises to further expand the scope of free users through the relocation of old packages, voice traffic resources to replace caller IDs, etc., and gradually cancel caller ID fees within 3-5 years.

According to public data, as of the end of last year, the total number of mobile billing users of the three major operators was 1.646 billion, and the 2% of the old package users also had nearly 33 million households. Since 2017, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has promoted basic telecommunications enterprises to give away or include caller ID services in new and on-sale packages, no longer charge additional fees, and gradually promote the migration of existing users. In recent years, under the impetus of the national "speed up and fee reduction" policy, charging items such as mobile phone long-distance roaming charges have been gradually cancelled, and the cancellation of caller ID fees as soon as possible will also become another measure for basic telecommunications companies to benefit the people.
