FCC Chair Jessica Rosenworcel said, "There is growing evidence that Chinese operators pose a threat to our telecom cybersecurity. Rosenworcel also said the FCC would conduct "similar procedures" with Pacific Networks Corp. and its wholly owned subsidiary ComNet.

As one of the three major telecom operators in China, China Unicom has been operating in compliance in the United States for nearly 20 years. In a June 2020 filing, China Unicom said it had always abided by local rules and had no reason to be expelled from the United States.

This isn't the first time the U.S. has taken a shot at a company in China's telecommunications industry. Last October, the FCC decided to revoke China Telecom Americas' authorization to operate in the United States. A spokesman for China Telecom USA said, "The FCC's decision is disappointing. ”

At that time, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology issued a statement saying, "The US side revoked its 214 license based on subjective speculation and suspicion without listing the specific illegal facts of our company, which is not in line with the image of the US market-oriented country and also damages the legitimate rights and interests of global consumers, including US users." ”

The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology added, "In recent years, the United States has repeatedly sanctioned Chinese enterprises on the grounds of national security, disregarding the facts. This is an unreasonable suppression of Chinese enterprises by abusing state power and a serious violation of international economic and trade rules. ”

Not only that, the FCC also rejected China Mobile's application to do business in the United States in 2019, and the reason for using it at that time was also "likely to seriously endanger the national security of the United States."
