As the "City of the Two Olympics", Beijing has fully realized the sustainable use of the Olympic heritage. Except for the National Speed Skating Hall "Ice Ribbon" and the Shougang Ski Jump center, other competition venues use the Venues of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games. The revamped Capital Stadium will undertake two competitions, short track speed skating and figure skating.
Completed in 1968 and operating for more than 50 years, the Capital Gymnasium is one of the most versatile and widely applicable gymnasiums in Beijing. At the time of the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, it was a volleyball venue. Now, the old venue has once again changed its identity and will undertake the two tasks of short track speed skating and figure skating at the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics.
Transforming such a venue is not easy. This time, the first comprehensive hall was renovated and expanded, and the appearance adhered to the traditional color, solemn atmosphere, and was pleasing to the eye from a distance. But walking into the Capital Gymnasium, the modern atmosphere comes to mind. Looking around, the seats distributed in the dark blue and light blue intervals are more comfortable after widening; looking up, 36 37 square meters of ultra-thin films are paved into a giant projection screen of thousands of square meters at the top of the venue, and the laser projector arranged in the four corners of the venue is turned on to project the picture on it; looking down, the multi-functional conversion standard ice rink of 31 meters × 61 meters is white and flat, and the cute ice doll and snow baby patterns are clearly visible and vivid under the ice.
