Under the pressure of war with the remnants of the Empire, the New Republic signed a contract with Slane & Copil for the MG-100 Starfort, a specialized bomber with a payload far greater than that of a starfighter. Subsequent de-militarization efforts by the Senate sent most of these bombers to the dumps, while others fell into the hands of the Resistance. The benevolence of Delka's Cobalt Squadron and Crimson Squadron to the Atella mission made it impossible for the bombers to attack the Star Killer base, but the squadron's survivors arrived in time to play a key role in defending Dekar from the First Order. The heroic sacrifices of the crew allowed the leaders of the Resistance to evacuate their besieged headquarters, including General Olgana and Admiral Akbar. During the Deca retreat, all the bombers were destroyed in the fighting, and only one reached the target area. The last bomber, piloted by Paige Tico, successfully completed the bombing before crashing, killing thunder a few seconds before it was about to destroy the Resistance flagship, The Radus.
