Toyota Gazoo Racing, Toyota's racing arm, has revealed that the 2022 WRC season will feature the new GR Yaris Rally1, which will debut in monte carlo on the 20th and 23rd of this month.
Gr Yaris Rally1 is expected to continue the successful equation of the previous generation Yaris WRC, in addition to strengthening the GI4B 1.6-liter turbocharged engine to produce 500 maximum horsepower, it will also respond to changes in the WRC rules, using 100% perpetual fuel; the biggest change in power is the use of The Hybrid oil-electric composite power system. With the addition of a 3.9 kWh battery pack and a motor capable of outputting an additional 134 hp (100 kW), the new race car provides better acceleration performance and energy savings.
At the same time, gr Yaris Rally1 in line with the latest season specifications, changes including simpler air power design, the return of the traditional mechanical gear lever, the removal of the central active differential, etc., so that the new season's WRC more emphasis on the technical performance of the drivers themselves. Of course, the introduction of the Hybrid system, including the efficiency and output of kinetic energy recharge, are new skills that riders and technicians need to know more.
Toyota Gazoo Racing WRT will feature Elfyn Evans with Scott Martin and Kalle Rovanper with Jonne Halttunen for the full 2022 WRC season. Sébastien Ogier, an eight-time world champion who is expected to retire from rally racing, will join Benjamin Veillas in part of the race and share the same car with the combination of Espaekka Lappi and Janne Ferm.
Takamoto Katsuta and Aaron Johnston will drive the fourth GR Yaris Rally1 and challenge for the full season under the new team name "Toyota Gazoo Racing World Rally Team Next Generation".
