Su Yu was wise and discerning, and one of the servicemen he had promoted later became a general

The founding generals of New China were not easy, many of them were born in poor rural areas, and climbed out of the corpse mountains and blood seas step by step from soldiers to become the founding generals of New China.

The founding general was named Wan Haifeng, who served as a service soldier and battalion commander, and gradually grew up in battle. He was awarded the rank of general and served as deputy commander of the Beijing Military Region.

Wan Haifeng was born in 1920 to an ordinary peasant family in Guangshan County, Henan Province. Because his family was poor and his parents were uneducated, it cost money to find someone to name him, so his parents called him "Hairy Head". Later, he became a soldier of the Red Army, and it was really unpleasant to always call him "Mao Tou", so he plucked up the courage to give Himself a name to Commissar Gao Jingting. Gao Jingting immediately agreed, pondered for a moment, and named him Wan Haifeng. At this time, he was just a service soldier.

During the agrarian revolution, he participated in the struggle to defend the Eyu-Anhui Soviet region and in the three-year guerrilla war. At the beginning of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, the Red Army and guerrillas in Jiangnan were reorganized into the New Fourth Army, and Wan Haifeng served as a guard of the headquarters of the New Fourth Army, which was actually a service soldier of the leaders. After entering the New Fourth Army's Anhui Southern Teaching Corps to study, after graduating, he was transferred to the side of the deputy commander Su Yu as a staff officer, at this time he was less than twenty years old, named staff officer, in fact, he was also a service soldier.

In January 1941, su Yu was ordered to annihilate Li Changjiang because Li Changjiang, deputy commander of the Kuomintang Sulu Border Region, surrendered to the Japanese, which posed a great threat to the New Fourth Army.

Faced with the shortage of commanders and fighters, Su Yu promoted Wan Haifeng, who was only 21 years old, to the commander of the 2nd Battalion of the Independent Seventh Regiment. Since joining the revolution, Wan Haifeng has been serving as a service soldier, although he has studied, but he has no actual combat experience and has been on the battlefield, which is equivalent to being promoted from the service company to the fourth level as a battalion commander.

This not only surprised the troops, but even Wan Haifeng, so he decided to fight a good battle to repay commander Su's cultivation. In the town of Shijiadai, he led his battalion to fight two victorious battles and annihilated more than 600 people in Li Changjiang. The soldiers shouted happily, "Little Battalion Commander," and led us to victory.

Later, Wan Haifeng was transferred to the Taixing County Guard Regiment as the deputy regimental commander, and soon after his arrival, a Japanese army squad came with more than 6,000 puppet troops to attack Taixing County, and in this battle, Wan Haifeng led his troops to annihilate 20 Japanese troops below the japanese lieutenant and 2 Japanese soldiers. In the early days of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, it was not easy to capture the Japanese army alive.

After that, he led his troops to participate in major battles such as the Decisive Battle of Huangqiao and the Soviet-Chinese Anti-Sweeping Campaign. During the Liberation War, he led his troops to participate in the Seven Victories of the Seven Wars of the Soviet Union and China, the Battle of Lianshui, the Battle of Laiwu, and the Battle of Menglianggu.

During the Korean War, he was elected by Pi Dingjun as the director of artillery. Wan Haifeng, who had never been in charge of the artillery command, started from scratch, he made rapid progress, and soon he was able to command with ease.

He first put forward the operational idea of "swimming artillery groups" and took advantage of sudden, aggressive, and fierce rapid attacks to strike at enemy artillery. And creatively popularized this tactic to the anti-aircraft artillery unit, making up for the weakness of our army's anti-aircraft artillery type and insufficient shooting height.

Once, when attacking the enemy's nameless heights, he commanded the artillery to launch a surprise attack for 15 minutes, effectively suppressing the enemy's fire. The next day, when the enemy was assembling with 30 vehicles full of follow-up troops, he commanded the artillery group to launch a three-minute fire attack, annihilating most of it. Post-war data show that Wan Haifeng alone commanded artillery to eliminate 1,800 American troops.

Wan Haifeng was appointed deputy commander of the Beijing Military Region in 1972 and was awarded the rank of general in 1988.
