Yo-Yo Ma was unable to personally participate in the activities of Guangdong International Youth Music Week this year, but in his open letter to this year's Music Week, he fondly recalled the extraordinary history of the fifth Music Week and sent a message to Guangdong International Youth Music Week with "Music and culture help us conceive and create a better future".
In the past few music weeks, it is composed of musical improvisation and performance, chamber music and orchestral music learning and performance. At the 2022 Guangdong International Youth Music Week, the chamber music and orchestral music section will be restored. Ma Youyou believes that the essence of the great attempt of Guangdong International Youth Music Week is to explore the relationship between music and social development in Guangdong, an open, inclusive and innovative hot land. He believes that the flexibility of music to cope with change, the spirit of cooperation, and the attitude of dialogue are worth thinking about again and again.
In the outreach activities of the 2020 Guangdong International Youth Music Week, Mr. Ma Youyou interacted with the public cordially
On January 17th, Guangdong International Youth Music Week launched its music outreach activities. Feed the city with humanistic feelings and comfort the soul. This power is demonstrated through improvised collaborative practice of music, through chamber music performances, and by bringing music into the community of Guangzhou.
Taking the Ersha Island Xinghai Concert Hall as the first stop, the YMCG outreach team and the "Music Companion Program" that participated in the public welfare art class supported the teenagers to visit the Apu Painting Exhibition and play for the children at the exhibition site; at the Guangzhou Children's Palace, the musicians performed on the same stage with the children of the "Rainbow Fusion Art Troupe After the Rain"; in Modisha Park, they walked into the motorcycle grinding sand section that is closely related to the public but full of mystery, played for the audience, and boarded the tram with the name of "the most beautiful 7.7 kilometers". "Crossing" to other city landmarks in Guangzhou for "pop-up" performances.
2022 Guangdong International Youth Music Week - Master Class Connection Test
This year's music week will restart the chamber music project, and the instructor is the world-renowned Shanghai Quartet. Based on the consideration of epidemic prevention and control work, the Shanghai Quartet players in Tianjin will not come to Guangzhou to participate in the music week in person, but will interact with young musicians and audiences in Guangzhou Xinghai Concert Hall on the afternoon of January 16, 18 and 19 with real-time online master classes, and the three master classes will be open to the public and public welfare organizations.
The Shanghai Quartet will also perform Beethoven's string quartet online on the evening of January 17, 18 and 19, including three masterpieces in B flat major No. 6, B major fugue and G major no. 9 (Rasumovsky).
On January 20th, as a student, he will participate in three sets of string quartets in the Shanghai Quartet Master Class: the Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra Youth String Quartet, the China Philharmonic Orchestra String Quartet, and the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra Youth String Quartet, and will perform Beethoven's string quartets No. 4 in C minor, No. 1 in F major and No. 10 in E major respectively. The quartet works selected by this year's Music Week run through the early, middle and late creation period of Beethoven's string quartet, which is a witness to the mental journey of "Le Sheng" Beethoven.
The online and offline integration project of the Shanghai Quartet and the young musicians of the three local and three troupes was planned and implemented in a very short period of time. On the one hand, to ensure that the overall situation of epidemic prevention and control is not affected, on the other hand, with the pursuit of high-level artistic attitude, we insist on presenting high-level chamber music lectures and performances for students and audiences, which truly reflects the humanistic care of "the epidemic is relentless and the music does not stop".

At that time, Yo-Yo Ma in Boston, Michael Stern in Kansas City, and Yu Long in Shanghai will connect in real time with all the members of the YMCG Orchestra in the main venue in Guangzhou, and the chamber music young musicians of the three groups in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou. Several guests will explore how musicians, especially young musicians, as literary and artistic workers, can be honest and innovative in the present and future where opportunities and challenges coexist, and refine lasting and inspiring works from the changes of the times, the progress of the country, and the call of the people, write the spirit of the times, and show the morality and responsibility of a new generation of musicians.

Special Project 2021
The 2022 Guangdong International Youth Music Week will close on January 23, and for the deep meaning behind the music such as "Planet", "Animal Carnival", "Ode to the Moon", "Roman Pine Tree" and other music, Yo-Yo Ma has this interpretation: "Culture can also connect us with nature, reminding us that human beings are part of nature and have a common responsibility for nature, and I hope you can feel it from the opening and closing concerts." Hear how Holst and Dvořák sang the praises of Jupiter and the Moon, and how Saint-Saën, Respiki, and Beethoven used music to express the infinite diversity of flora and fauna, including humans. A great scientist once said to me that nature has the greatest imagination. This music is the voice of this imagination. ”
