Several U.S. troops lost their voices and shouted, scrambling to shoot back. Zhuang Yuandong saw this situation and had no choice but to order everyone to open fire at the same time, killing all the more than 30 American troops.
At about the same time, company commander Li Changyan also led the other two platoons of troops into battle. They attacked from the flanks, roundabout an American camp, and annihilated more than 50 American troops who were also asleep.
The soldiers were also pleased to find that there was an American colonel in the camp, who was later confirmed to be McLean, the commander of the Thirty-first Reinforcement Regiment of the Seventh Infantry Division.
That is to say, due to the speed of the volunteer attack, both battles were fought particularly smoothly, and more than 80 American troops were eliminated and an enemy regimental commander was killed.
However, the remaining American troops did not know that their regimental commander had died, and still launched a crazy counterattack against the volunteers according to their established deployment.
Due to the inaccurate information obtained by the 239th Regiment in launching the battle, it was mistakenly believed that the US army had only one battalion of troops in Dongshan, so the troops who threw themselves into the battle were far from enough, and they suffered losses in the face of the counterattack of the superior strength of the US army, so they had to temporarily stop the attack.
However, the situation of the US army is not good, although the volunteer army did not continue to attack, but through the rapid mobilization of troops to compress the US army into a "cage" of only 2 square kilometers in size.
Over the next two days and nights, the Volunteers launched a series of attacks on the Americans, constantly depleting the enemy and inflicting heavy losses on them.
In this process, the volunteer army also had to face various problems, such as ice and snow, hunger in the stomach, physical fatigue, and a serious shortage of weapons and ammunition... In particular, the cold weather of minus 20 or 30 degrees at night caused many soldiers to be frozen to death and frostbitten.
However, the volunteers always maintained a strong will, confidence in victory, and high morale, overcoming one difficult problem after another.
On the night of the 30th, with heavy snow and a cold wind, the commander of the Twenty-seventh Army decided to give full play to the advantages of our army's good at night warfare and ordered his troops to launch a third attack on the remnants of the enemy.
The enemy did not expect that the volunteer army would launch a large-scale attack in such bad weather, so it had to rush into battle, and the more passive it fought, the more passive it became.
At dawn the next day, the U.S. army, which had completely lost its fighting spirit, could no longer resist the onslaught of the volunteers, so it withdrew south desperately under the cover of more than 40 aircraft and more than 10 tanks.
This time, the volunteer unit was the 241st Regiment of the 81st Division, who dealt a head-on blow to the enemy in the front, causing a large number of casualties.
After this battle, the remnants of the US military could no longer organize an effective counterattack and defense, and could only take the road and flee on their own. Some of these U.S. troops were cornered and eventually drowned or froze to death in the icy Chosin Lake.
When night was fully underlaught, the 242nd Regiment of the Eighty-first Division caught up with a remnant of the enemy and launched an onslaught with the momentum of beating the falling water dogs. A few hours later, the fighting ended, and all the American troops were annihilated, with more than 400 totals.
It is worth mentioning that after this war, an interesting thing happened.

It turned out that when Zhang Jiqing, the commander of the communications squad, was cleaning up the battlefield, he found a blue cloth next to a killed American soldier. He picked it up and saw that the cloth was rectangular and had some colorful patterns printed on it, and decided to take it back to the frail warrior as a quilt cover.
