Until June 4, the U.S. army still made no progress, and angry Van Vleet made a desperate bet and launched a wave-like crazy attack on the entire position of the 63rd Army. At the moment of crisis, Fu Chongbi threw the 188th Division, which was serving as a reserve, into battle, and the enemy and we engaged in a deadly battle in Tieyuan. In the fierce battle, the remaining 8 men of the first battalion of the 563rd Regiment, one company and two platoons were surrounded by the enemy of the two battalions on an isolated high mountain, and lost contact with the main force of the division.
When Fu Chongbi learned of this, he immediately sent troops to the rescue, but due to the rain and slippery road and the enemy's tight blockade, the siege troops could not get close several times. The enemy launched a continuous onslaught into the second platoon, and the shells kept falling like raindrops. Led by deputy platoon commander Li Bingqun, the warriors rose up to fight back, repelling several consecutive enemy attacks with rifles and grenades in their hands, and the corpses of the enemy covered the hillside, but the warriors also ran out of ammunition.
Li Bingqun said to the soldiers: "The situation is clear to everyone. We are surrounded on three sides of the enemy, eight of us are impossible to break out, we have to fight, we have no bullets, we have to fight face to face with the enemy, there are too many of them, if we don't get it, we will become prisoners. We are soldiers of the 'Steel Battalion' and the 'Special Meritorious Platoon', we cannot discredit the hero company, let alone shame the motherland, we must let the enemy know that Chinese is a hard bone, and the volunteer soldiers are steel men! I propose we jump off a cliff! Death cannot be taken prisoner! The warriors agreed in unison, and without hesitation jumped off a cliff more than five meters high, let us remember the names of these 8 warriors: Li Bingqun, Zhai Guoling, Luo Juncheng, Hou Tianyou, He Chengyu, Cui Xuecai, Zhang Qiuchang and Meng Qingxiu.
