At that time, the commander-in-chief of the Gan army saw that Gui Yongqing was still very careful in his work, so he sponsored him to apply for the Whampoa Military Academy, saying that when the country was in need of employing people, a literate young man like you should serve the country.
At school, he was appreciated by the chief instructor He Yingqin, and after graduation, he was recommended by He Yingqin to serve as the commander of the Special Service Battalion of the First Army. This special service battalion is not an ordinary battalion, he needs to be led by his superiors, which also lays a good foundation for him to become a member of the Revival Society.
Speaking of the war, Gui Yongqing was praised by Chiang Kai-shek, saying that he was a general suitable for leading troops, who knew that Jiang Just praised him for making mistakes next, and he actually mailed the property seized on the battlefield back to his home without permission.
In the Battle of Longtan in 1927, in order to make up for the mistakes made before, in this battle, Gui Yongqing led his troops to be brave and tenacious, bravely killed the enemy, and after the war, he was praised by Chiang Kai-shek, and let him serve as the brigade commander of the 31st Brigade of the 11th Division, and then got the opportunity to study abroad.
After the September 18 Incident, Gui Yongqing was ordered to group the separated children in the north together, engage in boy scouts, and also held a boy scout parade ceremony, when Gui Yongqing was the chief of the parade, he looked at these orphans in front of him, and unconsciously, he burst into tears, and he was out of control, and he cried bitterly. Chiang Kai-shek, who happened to be on the road, did not rebuke him, but said, "YongQingzhen is a model for Huangpu."
And this Whampoa model was really not very good, even incompetent, in the War of Resistance, he repeatedly escaped on the battlefield. In the Battle of Lanfeng, Gui Yongqing led the 28th Army to participate in the Battle of Lanfeng, who knew that in the face of a powerful enemy army, he even escaped without permission. Later, because Gui Yongqing had close relations with He Yingqin and Chen Cheng, he did not punish him severely, but he lost the right to directly command the troops.
It can be said that on the battlefield, Gui Yongqing escaped many times and was dismissed, and each time he was reused not long after, and later became the commander-in-chief of the Shanghai Army under the recommendation of Chen Cheng.
