The FTC will launch an antitrust investigation into Meta

According to Bloomberg, the U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and several states are investigating whether there is potential anti-competitive behavior in Oculus products, the VR arm of Facebook's parent company Meta. The FTC, along with officials in New York, North Carolina and other states, has begun a series of antitrust investigations in recent months against outside developers who develop Oculus programs to examine how Meta is using market power in the VR space to stifle competitive behavior, the sources said.

The FTC's antitrust officer investigation focused on how Oculus app stores discriminated against third-party competitors, the sales strategy of Oculus VR devices, and how the company's devices weakened the competitiveness of competitors, the Meta Oculus Quest 2, which sells for about $299, which is much lower than competitors such as HTC's VIVE.

At present, the FTC is strengthening antitrust supervision of high-tech companies.

At present, Meta's Oculus is the leader in the VR market, and according to Research Point Research, the global market share of the company's VR devices reached 75% in the first quarter of 2021, up from 34% in the same period. VR users can download a variety of games and programs through the Oculus Quest Store self-application platform. Developers say most Oculus take a 30 percent commission from the platform's total sales.
