VR Gyro, January 12 (Xinhua) -- A U.S. judge ruled on Tuesday that Meta must face an antitrust lawsuit filed by the U.S. government. The lawsuit accuses Meta of abusing its dominance and should be spun off.

The U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) argued that judges should ask Meta to sell Instagram and WhatsApp, while Meta asked Judge James Boasberg of the Federal Court in Washington dc to dismiss the lawsuit.

The latest news shows that Meta's request to rescind an FTC's antitrust lawsuit against the company was dismissed by a judge who found the FTC's lawsuit reasonable.

In 2020, Meta also faced the risk of forced breakup due to government antitrust lawsuits. In December 2021, Meta was also investigated by the FTC for acquiring the developer of the VR fitness game Supernatural.

Just recently, Meta was exposed to the acquisition of optical manufacturer Imagine Optix, which signed an exclusive agreement with MicroLED manufacturer Plessy and was also seen as an important driver to stimulate Snap's acquisition of optical waveguide manufacturer Wave Optix.
