AMD's $35 billion acquisition of Xilinx is expected to close next year, later than previously planned

Reuters news on December 30, two companies said on Thursday that chip giant AMD's $35 billion all-stock acquisition of Xilinx is expected to be completed in the first quarter of next year, a delay from the previously planned target for the end of this year.

The two companies said in a statement: "While we previously expected to get all approvals by the end of 2021, we have not completed this process yet. Last October, AMD agreed to buy Xilinx in a $35 billion all-stock deal that AMD said would strengthen its data center lineup.

The two companies said: "Our dialogue with regulators continues to make fruitful progress and we expect to obtain all necessary approvals." Nvidia's acquisition of British chip company ARM has struggled to get regulatory approval, and the U.S. Federal Trade Commission sued earlier this month over competition concerns to block the deal.
