All members of the hacking group REvil were arrested

IT House January 15 news, Reuters reported that the Russian Federal Security Service today announced in a press release that the ransomware hack behind apple's MacBook Pro schematic leak last year has now been arrested in Russia.

Following its initial arrest late last year, the Federal Security Service of Russia (FSB) explained that it had arrested 14 members of REvil, an organized criminal association that used malware to extort money from other companies.

All members of the hacking group REvil were arrested

In April 2021, REvil attacked Taiwan's Apple supplier Quanta Computer. The group went on to release detailed theft schematics of the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models, seven months before the device was officially released.

Extensive schematics show the redesigned MacBook Pro's notched notch, case design, ports, full-size function keys instead of touch Bar, and more. The leaked information was very detailed and was said to have been helpful to the maintenance technicians.

REvil threatened to release more schematics and files each day if Apple didn't pay a $50 million ransom, but the files that were initially leaked disappeared after a few days. In October 2021, several governments launched a joint initiative to take the REvil website offline.

IT House has learned that, according to the Russian Federal Security Service, REvil is now non-existent after the latest arrests and its information infrastructure has been neutralized. REvil's funds have been seized from 25 addresses in Russia, and cryptocurrencies, cash, cars and equipment are worth more than $5.5 million. United States authorities have also been informed of this progress.
