In order to enrich the cultural life of the masses, meet the cultural needs of the people, and better play the social benefits of the Display of New Year paintings, on January 14, the "Ancient Edition of New Rhymes and Good Dramas for Many Years - 2022 China Twelve Traditional New Year Paintings Joint Exhibition" was unveiled at the Suzhou Art Museum in Jiangsu Province, exhibiting more than 200 New Year paintings. The exhibition will run until February 20.

Suzhou Peach Blossom Wood New Year Painting "Take the Central Plains"
The exhibition is divided into four parts: New Year Painting, Shooting Tiger, Drama, and Celebrating the New Year, and the 12 New Year paintings exhibited include Peach Blossom Wood New Year Painting, Yangliu Youth Painting, Yangjiabu New Year Painting, Zhuxian Town New Year Painting, Wu Qiang New Year Painting, Mianzhu New Year Painting, Zhangzhou New Year Painting, Gaomi Po Gray New Year Painting, Tantou New Year Painting, Foshan New Year Painting, Liang Pingnian Painting and Pingyang New Year Painting are all national intangible cultural heritage. In addition, in the preface hall of the exhibition, the style and artistic characteristics of each New Year painting are also introduced, so that the audience can better understand the regional characteristics of the New Year paintings in various places. In addition, the exhibition also specially exhibits five original works of Gusu edition during the Kangxi, Yongzheng and Qianlong years of the Qing Dynasty, in order to show the unique artistic style of Suzhou Taohuawu woodblock prints, pay tribute to the glorious history, and reproduce the prosperity of Gusu.

It is worth mentioning that there is a kind of lantern play called the living fossil of the lantern puzzle in the New Year painting, and each New Year painting is an opera picture, and each picture has a riddle on it. The Suzhou Peach Blossom Wood Drama New Year Painting in the prologue hall of this exhibition is one of the typical works of Suzhou Lantern, and the forty-eight square lanterns in Hall 1 and Hall 3 are the famous Wuqiang Lantern Fang New Year Paintings, attracting many audiences to stop and watch.
The curator, Deputy Director of the Management Department of the Cultural Center of Suzhou Public Culture Center, said that New Year paintings are an important category of Chinese folk art, which is not only a folk art used to welcome the spring and pray for blessings on the occasion of the New Year, but also the most popular art style used by chinese people to beautify the environment, reflect social life, and express ideal pursuits. In general, it can be divided into five categories: exorcising evil spirits and avoiding evil spirits, praying for blessings and welcoming good fortune, opera legends, festive decorations and living customs, which contain rich connotations in social life, history and culture, customs, religious beliefs and aesthetic ideals of people everywhere.
