Passenger car market retail sales reached 2.105 million units in December 2021

On January 11, the Association released the December 2021 National Passenger Car Market Analysis Report. According to the data, the retail sales of the passenger car market reached 2.105 million units in December 2021, down 7.9% year-on-year and down 1.9% compared with December 2019, and retail sales increased by 15.9% month-on-month, with a significant improvement in the trend.

From January to December 2021, the cumulative retail sales reached 20.146 million units, an increase of 4.4% year-on-year, a growth rate of 1.7%; among the 860,000 retail sales year-on-year, the traditional fuel vehicles decreased by 1.02 million units by 6% year-on-year, while the increase in new energy vehicles by 1.88 million units increased by 169% year-on-year.

In terms of segmentation, luxury car retail sales of 250,000 units, down 3% year-on-year, an increase of 18% month-on-month; self-owned brand retail sales of 930,000 units, an increase of 4% year-on-year, an increase of 12% month-on-month; domestic retail share of independent brands of 46.3%, an increase of 6.9%; mainstream joint venture brand retail sales of 930,000 units, down 19% year-on-year, an increase of 19% month-on-month.

In December, the federation exported 170,000 passenger cars, an increase of 63% year-on-year, and new energy vehicles accounted for 15% of the total exports; the export of independent brands reached 150,000 units, an increase of 77% year-on-year; and the export of joint ventures and luxury brands was 20,000 units, an increase of 26% year-on-year. In terms of new energy vehicles, the wholesale sales of passenger cars reached 505,000 units in December, an increase of 138.9% year-on-year and 17.8% month-on-month; the wholesale sales of new energy passenger vehicles in January-December reached 3.312 million units, an increase of 181.0% year-on-year.
