Zen4 Full Core 5GHz Operation AMD confirms that the Ryzen™ 7000 uses an optimized 5nm process

At last week's CES show, AMD in addition to the launch of the Ryzen 6000 series processor, but also for the first time public display of 5nm Zen4-based Ryzen™ 7000 series processors, released at the end of this year, upgrade the AM5 socket, support DDR5 and PCIe 5.0 and other advanced technologies.

Compared with the current Ryzen™ processor, in addition to the advantages of the Zen4 architecture overhaul, the 5nm process will also bring many upgrades, after all, the 7nm process has been used for nearly three years.

Now AMD CEO Su Zifeng also confirmed that the 5nm used by AMD's Zen4 is a bit special, which is optimized for high-performance computing, and is not necessarily the same as the other 5nm used.

On the 5nm node, TSMC launched a number of derivative processes, including 5nm (codenamed N5), 5nm enhanced version (codename N5P), 4nm (codename N4), and the 4nm enhanced version (codename N4X) announced in December last year, the first use of the X suffix, emphasizing the special development for high-performance computing, performance is 15% higher than N5, compared to N4P, performance at 1.2V is also improved by 4%.

AMD did not clarify which process their 5nm optimized version is, N5, N4 can be excluded, N4X although it sounds more in line with AMD's statement, but just announced, basically can also be excluded, the largest possibility is N5P process for AMD customization.

Regardless of which process, 5nm Zen4 architecture Ryzen™ 7000 series processor frequency will be surprised is not running, after the official confirmation in Microsoft's "Halo" game can run full core 5GHz, although there is no clear number of cores, but to achieve 8 core 5GHz full core frequency will also be a great progress, worth looking forward to.
