Yue Fei's cursive book "Hanging Ancient Battlefield Text". According to legend, the inscription is Yue Feishu's "Hanging Ancient Battlefield Text" written by Li Hua of the Tang Dynasty. There are inscriptions by The Southern Song Dynasty Wen Tianxiang, Qing Peng Yulin, and Dexin. The stele consists of 10 stones, each 52 centimeters high and 103 centimeters wide, and was carved in the ninth year of Qing Guangxu (1883). It is now in the Collection of Yue Temple in Hangzhou.

Vast, boundless wilderness! There are no figures in sight. The river bends like a ribbon, and countless peaks in the distance intersect together. A dark and desolate scene, cold winds, dusk, flying canopy broken, wild grass withering, cold like a frosted winter morning. Birds flew by and refused to fall, and outliers of wild beasts ran by. The chief of the pavilion told me, "This is the ancient battlefield, and once the whole army was destroyed." Often the sound of ghosts crying can be heard on cloudy days. "It's sad! Is this the Qin Dynasty, the Han Dynasty, or a modern thing?
I heard that during the Warring States period, Qi Wei recruited Zhuang Ding to serve, and Chu Han recruited soldiers to prepare for war. Soldiers traveled thousands of miles of frontiers, exposed year after year, looking for aquatic grass grazing in the desert in the morning and wading through icy rivers at night. The earth is far away and the sky is long, and I don't know where the road back home is. Life is pinned between knives and guns, and to whom do you confide in a depressed mood? Since the Qin and Han dynasties, there have been frequent wars on the borders of the four sides, and the loss and destruction of the Central Plains have been frequent. In ancient times, it was said that the foreign Yi and the middle of the Xia were not enemies of the emperor's army; later, when they no longer preached the ritual music and indoctrination, the military generals used strange military tricks. Between the monarchs and subjects, the Qin Dynasty built the Great Wall, and even the seashore built a barrier, which mutilated countless people, and the blood stained the land black; the Han Dynasty sent troops to attack the Xiongnu, although it occupied the Yin Mountains, but the bones of the fallen soldiers were everywhere, and they slept with each other, which was really not worth the loss.
Of the many people born of heaven, who does not have parents? Pull the lead from a young age, hold it on your back, lest they die prematurely. Who doesn't have brothers? Kiss like brothers and sisters. Who doesn't have a wife? Respect each other like friends. What favors have they received while they have lived? What is the sin of killing them? Their lives and deaths are unknown to the family; even if they are summoned, they are suspicious. Sad and depressed all day, sounding and dreaming at night. I had no choice but to display the offerings, drink the wine to pay tribute, and look far away and weep bitterly. The heavens and the earth are sorrowful, and the grass and trees are also sad. Such an unclear offering cannot be perceived by the spirits of the dead in heaven, and their spirits have no place to rely on. Moreover, after the war, there will be disasters and famines, and people will inevitably be displaced. Yo yo! Is this the result of the times, or is it caused by fate? This has been the case since ancient times! How can war be avoided? Only by preaching indoctrination and practicing benevolence and righteousness can the four nations guard the territory for the Son of Heaven.
