After this soldier was seriously injured, "evaporation on earth", the country looked for him for 32 years, who is he?

On April 11, 1951, the People's Daily published the reportage work "Who is the Loveliest Person" by the writer Wei Wei. This article is born from the true story of the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea, and tells the deeds of a group of heroic soldiers. In the text, the author affectionately refers to the soldiers of our army as "the most lovely people".

And what we want to talk about today is such a "cute" battle hero, his name is Chai Yunzhen.

Chai Yunzhen was born in 1926 to a poor peasant family in Sichuan, and in order to earn money to support his family, the little Chai Yunzhen became a long-term worker in the landlord's family, struggling to survive all day.

At the age of 22, Chai Yunzhen was working in the fields, and happened to be catching up with the Nationalist army to capture Zhuang Ding. In the face of these people's arbitrariness, Chai Yunzhen could not resist and had to obediently follow them. In the days that followed, Chai Yunzhen witnessed the corruption and incompetence of the military commanders, who wantonly oppressed the soldiers, and the subordinates would punch and kick each other if they disobeyed. Faced with this situation, Chai Yunzhen could only swallow his anger with others and express his protest and disgust with silence.

Later, the Battle of Huaihai broke out, and the long-standing dissatisfaction of the nationalist soldiers was also vented. Many people broke away from the camp and defected to the camp of the People's Liberation Army, which has strict military discipline, and Chai Yunzhen was also one of them. Later, he was assigned to the Guard Company of the 45th Division of the 15th Army of the People's Liberation Army. Here, too, his thinking changed dramatically, and he was determined to serve the well-being of the people and become a heroic warrior. Chai Yunzhen always rushed to the forefront on the battlefield to help his comrades behind him open the way. His bravery has been admired by his comrades-in-arms, and he has also made many meritorious achievements on the battlefield and become a hero in people's minds.

In October 1950, Chai Yunzhen went to Fight in Korea with the Volunteer Army, and he was incorporated into the 8th Company of the 134th Regiment of the 15th Army. The 15th Army was a heroic unit, and they carried out artillery fire in the Battle of Shangganling, put up stubborn resistance, and held their positions. Huang Jiguang, Qiu Shaoyun and Sun Zhanyuan, whom we know well, are all soldiers in this unit.

In fact, before the Battle of Shangganling, the 134th Regiment under the 15th Army also fought a beautiful blockade battle at Pu Dafeng.

On May 28, 1951, U.S. and Canadian troops arrived at the foot of Mount Park. They carried out a tentative bombardment before launching a formal attack under the cover of aircraft cannons. In the face of the fierce artillery fire of the enemy, our army did not flinch, but defended the position under its feet with determination to die. In the fierce battle of 6 days and 6 nights, the enemy launched many attacks on our army, but these attacks were all crushed by the heroic warriors.

On the 6th day, the forward positions of our army were unfortunately occupied by the enemy army, which caused a disadvantage to the war situation. Faced with this situation, Chai Yunzhen was in danger of being ordered, and he led his soldiers to rush to the enemy army under artillery fire to retake the position. They took up their submachine guns, fired a barrage of bullets at the enemy, and threw grenades into the enemy's camp in spite of themselves, and the mountain suddenly became a sea of fire. The warrior in front fell, and the warrior in the back rushed up to take over, and when the bullet was finished, Chai Yunzhen drew his bayonet and engaged the enemy in hand-to-hand combat. According to the People's Daily news, in this war, Chai Yunzhen killed more than 100 enemies and fought bloodily until the last moment. Finally, due to his serious injuries, Chai Yunzhen passed out on the battlefield.

The efforts of Chai Yunzhen and others were not in vain, and they won time on the battlefield. Soon after, our reinforcements arrived and retook the position, and Chai Yunzhen was also sent to the rear hospital and recovered a life. Later Chai Yunzhen was awarded the honorary title of Special Meritorious Servant and First Class Combat Hero.

In 1952, Chai Yunzhen was demobilized and returned to his hometown and became a farmer. He deliberately hid his name and never revealed his achievements to outsiders, but chose to dedicate his life silently. Later, the organization wanted to award Chai Yunzhen a medal, but found that his whereabouts could not be found in any way, and Chai Yunzhen seemed to have "evaporated in the world".

It was not until many years later that Chai Yunzhen's son Chai Bingrong accidentally saw a notice in the newspaper about the army's search for people and was surprised to find that what they were looking for was their father. Chai Bingrong hurriedly returned home with the newspaper and pointed out the contents to Chai Yunzhen, who realized that the original country had been looking for him for 32 years.

Later, Chai Yunzhen returned to the army, and his old comrades-in-arms heard the news and rushed to see him, and everyone hugged together to reminisce about the past, crying uncontrollably. People asked Chai Yunzhen if he had difficulties in life and whether he needed help, but he always replied: "I am still alive, I am alive and well, I am satisfied, and I have no personal requirements." ”

On December 26, 2018, Chai Yunzhen passed away at the age of 92.
