Chiang Kai-shek ordered Wu Tinglin to stand firm and wait for help. On 5 May, the main Japanese forces launched a fierce attack, and the 64th Division suffered heavy casualties. The chief of staff of the division was killed by a Japanese sniper. After several days of fierce fighting, the 15th Army was forced to retreat into Luoyang City, hoping to hold the city for reinforcements. However, Jiang Dingwen, commander of the First Theater, has always been a reinforcement in the future. The Japanese surrounded the city of Luoyang. Shouting at the city: "General Wu, you are the most capable person in the Battle of Henan, but the imperial army has surrounded Luoyang and limited you to surrender within 24 hours." ”

The Japanese army was ashamed and angry, and began to attack the city on a large scale, and dozens of artillery shells were fired at the city, and the houses in the city were almost lost. Half a month later, the main force of the Japanese army invaded the city, the commander Wu Tinglin had to lead the troops to break through, the entire Luoyang defense lasted for 21 days, killing more than 20,000 Japanese troops, becoming the longest-lasting battle in the Battle of Henan, killing the largest number of Japanese troops, Wu Tinglin also became famous in the battle.
But why was such a capable general shot in 1952? The main reason is that Wu Tinglin is cruel and likes to kill. During his campaign against bandits, he wantonly killed civilians, and all those who thought they were suspects were pulled out and beheaded for public display. In 1930, Wu Tinglin implemented Liu Zhenhua's Three Lights Policy in the Dabie Mountain area, and countless villagers were killed, and the local people gave him the nickname Wuyan Wang.
