However, during a battle against Japan, Feng Zigen was wounded and was arranged by the troops to be treated in northern Shaanxi. After that, he went to the military academy of the Eighth Route Army to study.
In 1942, Feng Zigen served as a battalion commander of the Eighth Route Army. Originally, Feng Zigen wanted to make more meritorious achievements on the battlefield and kill more enemies.
