Competition in the high-margin track is becoming more and more fierce GM CES officially announced the Sorod electric pickup

Financial Associated Press (Shanghai, editor Shi Zhengcheng) news, in the CES online event held on Wednesday, GM officially announced the launch of the Chevrolet Sorod (Silverado) electric pickup truck, adding another fire to the market's long-awaited "pickup truck war".

According to the company's disclosure, the Sorod electric pickup will be divided into a working pickup truck (WT) for commercial customers and a luxury RST version for retail customers, with the WT version that will be available in the spring of 2023 starting at $39,900, while the RST version, which will sell for $105,000, will be available next fall. With the increase in production capacity, GM will also launch other models in this series in the future.

According to the official specifications, the WT version will deliver 510 horsepower and 615 pound feet of torque, and the RST version will provide up to 664 horsepower and 780 pound feet of torque.

GM said Wednesday that both models have a range of 400 miles (about 643 kilometers) when fully charged, support public DC fast charging of up to 350kW, and can run about 100 miles while charging for 10 minutes. For comparison, rivian's R1T and Ford F-150 Lightning have a range of around 300 miles.

In the common "reverse charging" link of electric pickup trucks, GM not only arranges 10 power transmission interfaces for this car, but also can power another electric vehicle when adapting to charging equipment.

As GM electrifys mainstream pickup models, it also marks a gradual shift in focus of competition with old rival Ford to the field of electric vehicles. Steve Carlisle, president of Ford Motor North America, said in an interview with the media that it is clear that the company's previous Hummer electric pickup is an important step, but Sorod is a step towards electrification of mainstream pickup trucks.

The Sorod pickup is the Upcoming Ford F-150 Lightning pickup, which starts at $39,974 but is $14,000 cheaper than the GM Sorod. In addition to the price bias caused by the additional features, the F-150 electric car shares many accessories with its traditional version, which also plays a role in reducing costs. The Sorod pickup, like the Hummer electric pickup, uses GM's new Ultium platform.

Just yesterday, Ford motor announced that it had received more than 200,000 F-150 Lightning reservations, planning to double the production capacity of electric pickup trucks to 150,000 a year, triggering a double-digit rise in stock prices. Last week, Ford's market value surpassed GM for the first time in nearly five years, and the gap between the two has now widened to $5 billion.

In addition to electric pickups, BrightDrop, GM's electric truck company, also received two large orders on Wednesday, of which Walmart placed an order of 5,000 units in one go, while FedEx continued to add 2,000 orders in addition to the earlier 500 orders, and said that this number can reach 20,000 in the future.
