Objectively speaking, listening to Beijing opera is not a bad thing, but Gu Ruiyu often runs to Beiping to listen to the opera and does not go back for many days. She also played the score on a large scale, often under the banner of Zhang Xueliang, and let those famous actors of Beijing opera go to the private apartment of her friends who lived to sing in the church. In this way, the time of those famous actors to rush to the scene is affected, and the loss of the waist bag is of course not small. Although they were afraid of the young marshal's face and had to go, their hearts were extremely dissatisfied with Gu Ruiyu's approach. Zhang Shaoshuai was naturally very annoyed after learning about these things.
Gu Ruiyu made a serious mistake when he learned of the death of his father-in-law Zhang Zuolin in Tianjin. She had no idea that Zhang Xueliang did not publish the news of his father's death in order to stabilize the overall situation in the northeast. At that time, she knew that her husband was in Luanzhou, but she did not contact him, but made up her own mind and took the liberty of returning to Shenyang, which caused a big disaster!
It was precisely because of her trade actions that Zhang Xueliang's intentions were immediately clarified by the Japanese Kwantung Army. The Japanese side thus concluded that Zhang Zuolin was indeed killed by the bombing, for the simple reason: If Lao Zhang had not died, then Gu Ruiyu, who had never been well received by her father-in-law, would not return to Kanto alone without her husband in Fengtian, and she would most likely go to the funeral.

In fact, Zhang Xueliang also understood that Gu Ruiyu was not bad in heart and could not collude with his enemies, but he was extremely dissatisfied with Gu's stupidity and confusion, especially the violation of the previous covenant to interfere in politics many times, which was a very unwise move.

In January 1931, after the situation in the northeast stabilized, Zhang Xueliang decided to go through divorce procedures with Gu Ruiyu. One evening in the spring of 1940, Gu Ruiyu suffered a sudden stroke due to a seizure of high blood pressure. After rescue, she finally saved her life, but since then she has been paralyzed in bed, unable to take care of herself, and can only rely on her adopted daughter Hu Wenxiu to take care of her.
In the summer of 1946, Gu Ruiyu's illness worsened, and he could not even speak, and Hu Wenxiu married to Qingdao soon after. The lonely Gu Ruiyu died of illness on July 3 of that year at the age of 42.
