Careful friends will find that these field armies almost include the personnel and horses of the three main divisions of the Eighth Route Army, of which Lin Zong and Nie Zong were the commanders and deputy commanders of the 115th Division; Liu Shuai and Xu Shuai were the division commanders and deputy division commanders of the 129th Division; however, the figure of He Long, the former commander of the 120th Division of the Eighth Route Army, never appeared in the five major field armies.
Is it that Mr. He's military strength is not strong enough to be the commander of the field army? Of course not, during the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, Mr. He was the commander of the 120th Division, and for a long time he fought alone against the Japanese army, and single-handedly created two major anti-Japanese revolutionary base areas in northwestErn Jin and Sui. "Peng Lin Liu Xusu" of our army is known as the "five major military experts" of our party, and He Shuai is a figure who can be compared to the "five tiger generals" among marshals at the level of military command. During the entire War of Resistance Against Japan, Xiao Ke, Wang Zhen and others had not yet grown to the point of being independent, and many strategies and tactics were formulated by Mr. He himself.
It was precisely in this situation that General He successively commanded the Battle of Wumeng Mountain, the Battle of Hejian Qihui, the Battle of Chenzhuang, the Battle of Liberating Jinzhong, the Battle of Suiyuan, the Battle of Northern Jin, and other classic battles, and in the short period of one year in Jizhong, he not only stabilized the situation in Jizhong and allowed the troops to grow rapidly, but also played the prestige of the 120th Division of the Eighth Route Army. It is reasonable to say that President He has a high status in the party and a military level, and he should shine in the Liberation War, let alone the commander of the five major field armies, but why does the headquarters of the five field armies not have a place for President He, and why was he almost absent in the entire liberation war? In fact, the reason why Marshal He was almost absent in the War of Liberation was related to the reason why President He himself did not surrender his troops for fame and fortune several times.
In July 1945, our party did not have the five major field armies at that time, because in the land of the Jinsui base area, a He Long was also formed to lead the Jinsui Field Army, and in November 1946, the headquarters of the Jinsui Field Army, which had been established for just over a year, was abolished, and the troops were reorganized into 3 field columns. Soon after, the Central Military Commission ordered that the Jinsui Field Army be transferred to the Shaanxi-Gansu-Ningxia Border Region to defend Yan'an, and Without any hesitation, General Manager He gave the command of the first column to General Manager Peng.
By March 1947, as Liu Deng's army, Chen Xie's corps, and East China Field Army approached Dabie Mountain, Western Henan, Anhui and Suzhou respectively, the War of Liberation ushered in a new stage of strategic counteroffensive, and the Kuomintang army also shifted from an all-out offensive to a focused attack on our party's base areas in northern Shaanxi and Shandong. At the same time, the Central Military Commission also proposed to transfer the 2nd Column under The Command of General He lao to northern Shaanxi for reinforcements, and after receiving the order, He Laozong once again showed an open-minded state of life, and he specially sent the 2nd Column to cross the Yellow River and step up their rush to the battlefield in northern Shaanxi.
At this point, He Shuai had only one column in his hands, and its structure was equivalent to an army. You must know that General He was a military commander before the Nanchang Uprising, and now 20 years later, there is only one army under He Shuai's command, which no one can accept. However, He Shuai never made a single fuss from beginning to end.
He also said: "Before I joined the party, the army I commanded was all mine, and after I joined the party, the army I commanded was the party, and even my brain shell was the party!" ”
Soon, the Central Military Commission decided to set up the Northwest Field Army, with Mr. Peng as the commander of the Northwest Field Army, with full responsibility for the liberation of the northwest, and the 3 columns of Mr. He were naturally assigned to the Northwest Field Army. At this point, all 3 columns under He Shuai were handed over, and He Shuai himself became a "light rod commander". Some generals felt unfair to Boss He, but Instead He advised them:
"The army is the army of the Party, not anyone. The troops I bring, others can also bring. The army must be commanded by the Party! ”
After handing over all the troops, He Shuai obeyed the arrangements of the Central Military Commission and threw himself into the work of providing logistical support for the Northwest Field Army, once again giving full play to his outstanding talents in logistics and fully guaranteeing the logistical supply needs of the Northwest Field Army. It was precisely because of He Shuai's excellent rear support that the Northwest Field Army showed amazing combat effectiveness, fighting many examples of victories with less, which even Higashino and Huaye could not stand out. Historians once commented: "Half of the outstanding achievements of the Northwest Field Army are attributed to He Long. ”
When the Southwest Campaign began, Mr. He served as the commander of the Southwest Military Region, and he led the Eighteenth Corps from Shaanxi into Sichuan, beat the so-called first protégé of Tianzi Hu Zongnan to the head, and recaptured Chengdu and Xichuan in one fell swoop, completely ending the Kuomintang's rule in the great southwest. Although He Shuai did not care about fame and fortune in his own reasons, he was not able to make great achievements like Peng, Lin and Liu in the Liberation War, but it still did not affect his rank of fifth among the top ten marshals when he was awarded the title in 55 years, and he received marshal order No. 001, the central government has never forgotten the efforts of Boss He, and the life realm of Boss He is worthy of our admiration.
