Dun Xingyun was born in 1912 in Zoujiajiakou Township, Shishou County, Hubei Province, to a poor peasant family. In 1930, he joined the Red 6th Army, and because of his bravery in battle, he was promoted all the way in the Red Army, and in three years he was promoted from squad leader to 2nd company commander of the 25th Regiment.
Life cannot all be smooth, just when Don Xingyun was a company commander, Xia Xi, secretary of the Xiang'exi Central Bureau of the CPC, was carrying out a "repression" in the Red 3rd Army, and the Military Political Protection Bureau branded Dun Xingyun as a "reorganization faction" in the name of destroying the security regiment associated with the Red Army. On June 28, the Japanese army attacked Xingxian County, the central area of the anti-Japanese base area in northwestern Jin, in a vain attempt to jointly attack the 120th Division and the 358th Brigade. He Long and Guan Xiang should estimate that the Japanese army would retreat to Lan County after the air was overwhelmed, and decided to concentrate their forces on laying an ambush twenty miles east of Xing County to attack the Japanese puppet army retreating to the east. On the afternoon of July 2, Dun Xingyun led the vanguard battalion from the garrison and advanced at great speed on the continuous mountain road that crisscrossed the ravine to the predetermined locations of Mingtonggou and Aojiaping. At this time, the Japanese troops from Xingxian County retreated eastward along the river, and some of them had already crossed the scheduled ambush circle of the Eighth Route Army, and the brigade of more than 1,000 people was marching between Yanghuiya and Aojiaping.
The advance battalion of the friendly neighboring forces attacked first, fiercely strafing the advancing Japanese troops. The 2nd Battalion of the 715th Regiment, led by Dun Nebula, immediately joined the battle. Because the Eighth Route Army had only two battalions of troops at the beginning, coupled with the fierce firepower of the Japanese army, the positions changed hands several times, and the 2nd Battalion of the 715th Regiment suffered heavy casualties and gradually became unsupported. At this time, the 716th Regiment arrived under the leadership of the regimental commander Huang Xinting and attacked from behind the Japanese flank. The Japanese army was attacked by the two main regiments of the Eighth Route Army and fell into passivity, and the two regimental commanders, Dun and Huang, seized the fighter plane and led their troops to attack continuously, inflicting heavy casualties on the Japanese army. At dusk, the Japanese army retreated to the villages of Yanghui Cliff and Mingtonggou to resist. The Eighth Route Army launched a general offensive with the strength of two regiments, and the Japanese army relied on the stubborn resistance of the villages to block the attacking troops of the Eighth Route Army with artillery fire.
Seeing that the attack of the troops was blocked, Dun Nebula knew that if he did not take advantage of the cover of night to annihilate this Japanese army as soon as possible, when its reinforcements arrived, the consequences would be unimaginable. Don Xingyun rushed to the front to inspect the field, found that the attacking force was mainly blocked by the threat of Japanese artillery fire in the rear, and immediately ordered a platoon led by the commander of the 2nd Company of the 715th Regiment, who was a scout, to sneak into the Japanese artillery position. The Japanese artillery was raided and chaotic, and Dun Xingyun seized the opportunity to immediately order the troops to attack, and the enemy collapsed.
At this moment, Dun Nebula suddenly fell backwards, and the blood on his left chest spurted, unconscious. Don Nebula's left chest was hit by a Japanese bullet and he was dying. He Long and Guan Xiang responded with the order: Be sure to save dun nebula! The doctors began an intense rescue. Three days and three nights passed, and he finally woke up from his deep coma.
After a period of treatment, Dun Nebula quickly returned to the team after recovering from his injuries.
