On January 4, Mercedes-Benz announced the world's first VISION EQXX concept car. As the most energy-efficient model in the brand's history, the car reduces the wind resistance coefficient to 0.17, has a range of more than 1000 kilometers on a single charge, and applies a large number of lightweight technologies and sustainable materials throughout the vehicle, as well as human brain bionic technology.
It is understood that the research and development process of the VISION EQXX concept car uses a lot of digital tools such as virtual reality and augmented reality, starting from scratch to landing on the ground, which takes only 18 months.
Mercedes-Benz said that thanks to the new electric drive system developed in-house, the VISION EQXX concept car has achieved efficient use of energy, compared to the most efficient internal combustion engine drive system can only achieve 30% energy efficiency, its lightweight and efficient electric drive system will eventually transmit up to 95% of the battery energy directly to the wheels.
In addition, the "Energy Efficiency Assistant System" also helps to improve driving efficiency, which can give the most efficient driving recommendations based on information such as energy flow, terrain, electricity, and even the direction and intensity of wind and sun.
Mercedes-AMG HPP has developed a new battery pack specifically for the VISION EQXX concept car, achieving an energy density of nearly 400 Wh/L, with a nearly 100 kWh battery volume of only 50% of the new EQS and a 30% weight reduction. This allows the VISION EQXX Concept to accommodate a battery pack with a usable energy of nearly 100 kWh in its compact size.
In addition, the VISION EQXX Concept consumes less than 10 kWh per 100 km/ 100 km and has a range of more than 1,000 km on a single charge after digital simulation of real road conditions.
In terms of appearance, the VISION EQXX Concept adopts the Alubeam silver exterior. The retractable rear diffuser retracts and blends into the bodywork, ensuring balance, proportion and lightweight design at the rear.
For biotech materials applications, the vision EQXX concept car features pure, biodegradable plant-based silk for the door handles, two leather alternatives to the seats – made from cactus raw material and mycelium, and carpets woven from 100% bamboo fibres.
In addition, the concept car is powered by the brand's first fully seamless 47.5-inch ultra-thin all-in-one screen, introducing a game engine and a fully optimized user interface. The R&D team also collaborated to develop the first 3D real-time navigation system compatible with this size of screen, which can zoom in on satellite footage to 10 meters in 3D city views.
Mercedes-Benz pointed out that at present, a number of functions applied in the concept car have been applied to the production car, and more technologies will be installed in the subsequent mass production Mercedes-Benz models.
