The first shipwreck occurred during the Roman period in the third century AD, and the second occurred during the Mamluk period in 1300 AD.

This delicate emerald-encrusted octagonal gold ring was found in the first shipwreck, and among the gems is a statue of the "Good Shepherd," a symbol of Jesus in early Christianity, when the Roman Empire was very tolerant of new forms of denomination, including the worship of Jesus, and experts say the ring may have belonged to a wealthy citizen.
