"Nanhai No.1" creates a world-class archaeological brand

In November 2021, the General Office of the State Council issued the "14th Five-Year Plan for the Protection of Cultural Relics and Scientific and Technological Innovation", in which the "Nanhai No. 1" shipwreck was listed as a major underwater archaeology project. The 2022 Guangdong Provincial Government Work Report proposes to improve the level of protection and utilization of "Nanhai No. 1" and accelerate the construction of a world-class archaeological brand.

In recent years, relying on the historical and cultural resources contained in "Nanhai No. 1", Guangdong Haisi Museum has opened the archaeological excavation process throughout the museum, exhibiting more than 4,000 cultural relics and exhibits, and has received more than 10 million domestic and foreign tourists since its opening. "Nanhai No.1" has become an important carrier for promoting the self-confidence of Chinese national culture and an important window for the world to understand China.

Nanhai 1 is a ship of peace that has been promoted globally by UNESCO as a classic case. As early as 1993, the first batch of cultural relics from the "Nankai No. 1" went to Osaka, Nagoya, Nagashima and other places in Japan for exhibition, which won widespread attention and praise from the Japanese academic community. In recent years, Guangdong HaisiGuan has actively promoted foreign cultural exchanges with "Nanhai No. 1" as the carrier.

The "Nanhai No. 1" water relics have participated in several international exhibitions in Saudi Arabia, Germany, Italy and other countries, showing Western audiences the grand situation of China's development of maritime trade in the Southern Song Dynasty, as well as the achievements of archaeology and protection of underwater cultural heritage on the mainland. In the Spring Festival of 2022, "Nanhai No. 1" for the first time for Southeast Asia, breaking through the restrictions of time and space, launched digital panoramic exhibitions and publicity activities in Malaysia, and sent a rich Hai silk cultural experience to the local people.
