Wei Lihuang knew that the general situation was gone, so he handed over the troops to Zhou Fucheng, who was then the commander of the Eighth Corps, and flew to Beiping himself.
Zhou Fucheng is a native of Shenyang, graduated from the Baoding Army Officer School, participated in the Great Wall War, the Battle of Wuhan, the Battle of Changsha and the Expeditionary Force to fight abroad. At this time, Wei Lihuang handed over this hot "potato" to himself, and Zhou Fucheng knew that he could not keep it, but he could only harden his scalp. On 1 November, our army launched a general offensive against Shenyang, with the 1st and 2nd columns breaking through from the west and southwest of Shenyang; the 12th column breaking through from the south; and the independent divisions breaking through from the north and east.
At this time, the morale of the nationalist army was completely lost, and our army quickly invaded the city. Huang Daxuan, then commander of the Sharp Knife Company of the 16th Regiment of the 2nd Column and 6th Division, led two platoons to search forward, and captured Zhou Fucheng, commander of the Kuomintang 8th Corps, and Su Bingwen, general counselor of the Northeast "Suppression General" Headquarters, in a small building not far from the Forbidden City in the Great West Gate. Capturing two lieutenant generals of the Nationalist army at once, Huang Daxuan became famous in the first battle and was praised by the leader of the column by name. In addition to these two lieutenant generals of the Nationalist army, the sharp knife company also captured many nationalist prisoners, and Huang Daxuan wanted to select some of these people to replenish the troops.
In the crowd, Huang Daxuan took a fancy to a big man at a glance, this person was not only tall, but also very energetic, and at first glance, he was a good material for a soldier. Huang Daxuan asked him if he would like to join his sharp knife company, but Xu Huizi said, "I want to go home." The northeast is liberated, what am I still doing as a soldier? "At that time, our army's policy towards captives was to be willing to join the PLA's stay, and those who did not want to participate were paid to let them go home. But Huang Daxuan liked Xu Huizi too much, so he left him in the Sharp Knife Company.
Unexpectedly, after joining the People's Liberation Army, Xu Huizi was like a fish in the water, and performed very well in the following battles such as the Battle of Pingjin, the Battle of Hengbao and the Battle of Guangxi, and won the great and minor merits once. Later, due to the reorganization of the troops, Xu Huizi and Huang Daxuan were separated. After the outbreak of the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea, Xu Huizi went into the Korean War with the troops and made meritorious contributions many times. After returning from Korea, Xu Huizi was sent to the military academy to study, and since then his position has steadily increased, and in 1983 he became the commander of the 39th Army. At that time, Huang Daxuan was serving as a deputy commander of the 39th Army, and in order to welcome the new commander, he brought the staff officer of the military department and several division commanders to the front of the barracks to greet him.
Although it had been known in advance that the name of the new commander was Xu Huizi, there were more people in the country who had the same name and surname, so Huang Daxuan did not think that this new commander would be the same small soldier he had captured in the Battle of Shenyang 35 years ago.
