After about half a year of reorganization, the 74th Division regained its combat effectiveness and was subsequently assigned to Qiu Qingquan's Second Corps. On the eve of the Battle of Jinan, Wang Yaowu, who was deeply undermanned, repeatedly asked Lao Jiang to request additional reinforcements, and finally Lao Jiang agreed to transfer the reorganized 83rd Division to Jinan, but the division was held by Liu Zhi, and Wang Yaowu did not receive the support of a single soldier. I have prepared a strong reinforcement force, and once the communist army besieges Jinan, I should strictly order the reinforcements to advance quickly. The last point you should pay attention to: when our reinforcements arrive in the area north of Yanzhou and Jining, you should contact the reinforcements at any time. When the reinforcements and the communists are exhausted, you must draw out the strength of two divisions to attack, attack from the north and south, and win the victory. ”
Regarding Old Jiang's "high theory," Wang Yaowu could only nod his head frequently. After returning to Jinan, Wang Yaowu waited for the arrival of the 74th Division, but Liu Zhi once again secretly stumbled and delayed the 74th Division from boarding. Under Chiang's repeated strict orders, it was not until September 18, three days after the Battle of Jinan, that Liu Zhi reluctantly agreed to airlift the 74th Division to Jinan. However, it was too late, the airport in the western suburbs of Jinan had already been blocked by artillery fire of our army, and under Wang Yaowu's repeated and painstaking requests, more than 1,100 officers and men from 7 companies were reluctantly transported, all of whom were bare-handed and did not even carry light weapons. At this time, the Battle of Jinan had reached a white-hot stage, and Wang Yaowu could not afford to fight with Liu Zhi, and hurriedly asked Liu Bingkun, the commander of the 172nd Regiment, to lead the more than a thousand people to receive weapons, and then went to the post and telecommunications building at the commanding heights of the Shangbu area.
In order to motivate Liu Bingkun to fight to the death, Wang Yaowu gave him the Zhongzheng sword that Lao Jiang had given him, and promoted him to major general brigade commander. Wang Yaowu's move deeply touched Liu Bingkunzhan, and he said on the spot that he would fight until the last soldier and one pawn, and he would never spare it. The Post and Telecommunications Building, also known as the Second Appeasement District Headquarters Building at the time, was surrounded by steel and concrete buildings, and the outer street was densely covered with bunkers, controlling the surrounding streets. On the roof of the building is a light and heavy machine gun fire bunker made of cement and equipped with three mountain guns. Each floor has machine gun and rifle firing holes in the windows, the courtyard doorways have been fortified, and each building is a strong fortress that can fight independently. The 8th Division of the 3rd Column was responsible for attacking the Post and Telecommunications Building, and the division commander Wang Jiwen set up his command post only one street away from the Post and Telecommunications Building. After the battle began, our army first concentrated heavy weapons and launched a long-term heavy bombardment of the building, then blocked the firing hole with light and heavy machine gun fire, and then organized elite commandos to charge from three directions at the same time from the north and southwest.
