In the First World War of Tanjiaqiao, Wang Yaowu fully demonstrated his military talents, and lao Jiang greatly appreciated him and promoted him to the commander of the 51st Division. Soon after the outbreak of the War of Resistance Against Japan in full swing, Wang Yaowu almost did not fight with him, and every time he won, the Battle of Wanjialing, the Battle of Shanggao and the Battle of Xuefeng Mountain were even more severely damaged to the Japanese army, becoming a famous anti-Japanese general. After the Battle of Yanzhou, Wang Yaowu realized that the next target of the PLA would be Jinan. At this time, although he still had more than 100,000 troops in his hands, most of them were security regiments with weak combat effectiveness, in addition to miscellaneous cards like Wu Huawen. Wang Yaowu knew that he could not defend Jinan by relying on these people, so he personally flew to Nanjing, stated his difficulties in person, and asked zhou Zhidao's reorganized 83rd Division and the rebuilt reorganized 74th Division to be airlifted to Jinan to help him defend the city.
Considering Jinan's important strategic position, Lao Jiang finally agreed to Wang Yaowu's request. At that time, the reorganized 83rd Division and the reorganized 74th Division were both stationed in Xuzhou and were under the jurisdiction of Liu Zhi. Liu Zhi was short-sighted and extremely selfish, and he was worried that these two divisions with strong combat effectiveness would weaken Xuzhou's defensive forces after being transferred, so he used various reasons to shirk perfunctory and hold the 83rd and 74th Divisions in place. The great battle was imminent, but there was no news of reinforcements. Wang Yaowu had no choice but to complain to Lao Jiang, who was extremely dissatisfied with Liu Zhi's move and strictly ordered him to airlift the 83rd and 74th Divisions to Jinan.
Even though old Jiang was angry, Liu Zhi was still unmoved, and under the pretext of transporting ammunition and communication equipment to Jinan, he did not let the 83rd Division board the plane until the Battle of Jinan began, and only airlifted a brigade. Xu Shiyou laughed and scolded after learning about it: Liu Zhi airlifted a brigade to the top of a fart, if it is an integrated division, I will have to change the combat deployment. In any case, the reorganized 83rd Division had a brigade, and the reorganized 74th Division Liu Zhi did not let a single soldier board the plane.
Wang Yaowu was extremely dissatisfied with Liu Zhi's short-sightedness, but his seniority and position were inferior to Liu Zhi's, so he had no choice but to complain to Old Jiang again. Under the severe reprimand of old Chiang Kai-shek, Liu Zhicai had no choice but to airlift the 74th Division to Jinan, but only 7 companies of troops were transported, and all of them were unarmed soldiers, not even light weapons. However, it was these 7 companies that caused great difficulties to the troops attacking the Post and Telecommunications Building, they stubbornly resisted under the leadership of Liu Bingkun, our army repeatedly attacked unsuccessfully, and Wang Jiwen, commander of the 8th Division of the 3rd Column of Huaye, was also killed in this battle.
The combined 83rd Division and the reorganized 74th Division totaled nearly 60,000 people, and they were all concubines commanded by Wang Yaowu during the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, and their combat effectiveness was very strong. If these two integrated divisions can all be airlifted to Jinan, the strength of the troops in Wang Yaowu's hands will be greatly enhanced, and I am afraid that no one will be able to say what the battle of Jinan will be like in the end. However, due to Liu Zhi's secret tripping, the reorganized 83rd Division only brought one brigade, and the reorganized 74th Division only transported 7 companies, which was unable to turn the tide of the war, and Wang Yaowu was finally defeated and captured.
