On September 16, 1948, the Battle of Jinan was officially launched. After eight days and nights of bitter fighting, our siege troops captured the Kuomintang Shandong Provincial Government compound at about 16:30 on September 24, occupied Wang Yaowu's "Chairman's Office," and captured a large number of senior officers, including Luo Xinli, chief of staff of the Kuomintang Second Appeasement District. However, the soldiers searched the whole city and did not find the figure of Wang Yaowu, then chairman of the provincial capital of Shandong Province and commander of the Second Appeasement District. So where did Wang Yaowu go?
At about two o'clock in the afternoon of September 24, less than three hours after the loss of the whole city of Jinan, Wang Yaowu, knowing that the general situation had gone, ordered the release of all prisoners in the city, and the PRISONERs of war of the People's Liberation Army were all paid for the road and sent out of the city. After that, he took his confidants through the tunnel to the underground building of the Chengren Ancestral Hall on the west side of the Arctic Temple, which was his last command post in Jinan. Wang Yaowu said to the crowd, "If we have failed to such a point today, do we want to become Ren?" ”
The crowd could not guess his thoughts, and for a moment no one answered. Wang Yaowu saw the situation and continued, "I don't think we can commit suicide, even if we commit suicide, we can't become benevolent!" The civil war is different from the anti-Japanese resistance, if you commit suicide, it is useless to die, you will only leave a name and be ridiculed. So I decided to take a few people to break through, not to sit and wait for prisoners, you cherish. After the speech, Wang Yaowu took the staff officer Yang Jun, the adjutant Song Guangyi, the guards Xu Chao, Qiao Yulong, and others, changed into civilian clothes prepared in advance, went out of the city through the tunnel, and then mixed in the crowd and ran toward Qingdao.
After more than a day of escape, Wang Yaowu and his party came to Zhou Village in Mingshui Town. In order to further narrow the target, Wang Yaowu dismissed the rest of the personnel, leaving only Qiao Yulong alone. In order to further conceal his identity, Wang Yaowu asked Qiao Yulong to go into the village to buy a set of local autumn clothes, an old hat and an old quilt, and then he spent money to buy a rubber-wheeled carriage, lying on the carriage, covering it with an old quilt, and dressed as a patient. To make it look more, he also put a plaster on his thigh.
After doing all this, Wang Yaowu asked Qiao Yulong to drive the carriage and follow the flow of people to the direction of Qingdao. On the morning of September 28, Wang Yaowu and Qiao Yulong came to Zhang jianqiao, 20 miles east of Shouguang County. This is the main east-west traffic route, and it is also the only place for Wang Yaowu to go to Qingdao. As early as after the end of the Jinan Campaign, the Shouguang County Public Security Bureau received instructions from their superiors to send people to Zhang Jianqiao on duty day and night to strictly investigate suspicious personnel who had traveled from Jinan to Qingdao, so as to prevent the officers of the Jiang Army who had fled from Jinan from becoming fish in the net.
On the morning of the 28th, on duty at the bridge were three soldiers, Liu Jinguang, Liu Yumin, and Zhang Zongxue of the Shouguang County Public Security Bureau. As soon as Wang Yaowu's carriage came to the bridge, it was stopped by three people, and Liu Jinguang asked, "Where did you come from?" "From Jinan." "Where are you going?" "Go to Qingdao." "What do you do?" "Do business." Upon hearing that these two men were coming from Jinan and were going to Qingdao, the three warriors immediately became alert.
Liu Jinguang then asked the names of the two people, and the driver said that his name was Qiao Yulong, and the patient in the car was his uncle Qiao Kun. The uncle and nephew opened a restaurant in Jinan, their restaurant was destroyed when the People's Liberation Army attacked Jinan, Qiao Kun was also injured in the thigh by a shell, and now they are ready to go to Qingdao to rely on relatives and friends and make another livelihood. Liu Jinguang found that when he asked questions, it was always Qiao Yulong who rushed to answer, and his uncle Qiao Kun did not say a word, so he felt that there was a problem with the two, so he took them to Tuntian Village, not far from here, which was the temporary station of the Shouguang County Public Security Bureau.
After entering the village, Liu Jinguang briefly reported the situation of the two to the interrogation officer Wang Hongtao, who was very experienced and immediately ordered Qiao Yulong and Qiao Kun to be interrogated separately. He asked Qiao Kun, "What are you doing?" "I was doing business, opening a restaurant in Puli Street in Jinan, the family business was destroyed by artillery fire, and my leg was injured, and I planned to go to Qingdao to find friends and make another living." As soon as he heard that this Qiao Kun was opening a restaurant, Wang Hongtao immediately asked him how much a bag of flour was, and what was the price of commonly used vegetables and meat.
At this point, Wang Hongtao already had a number in mind, and this Qiao Kun was most likely an officer of the Jiang Army who had escaped from Jinan. So he asked people to check Qiao Kun's luggage, and found two red gold treasures and a lot of oceans, and a person who opened a small restaurant could not save so much money anyway. At the same time, some snow-white high-grade cotton paper was also found in the luggage. Wang Hongtao asked: What is this for? "Hand paper," Qiao Kun replied without thinking. At that time, this kind of high-grade hand paper was simply not used by ordinary people, and Wang Hongtao was even more certain that the identity of this Qiao Kun in front of him was not ordinary.
So he said to Qiao Kun solemnly: "Mr. Officer, don't pretend to be garlic anymore, your 100,000 troops in Jinan have all been wiped out by us, can a few defeated soldiers who have slipped through the net still escape from the palms of the soldiers and civilians in the Liberated Areas?" There is only one way out for you, and that is to explain it thoroughly! Wang Yaowu knew that he could no longer hide it, so he had to confess his identity. Soon after, Wang Yaowu was sent to Gongdelin for reform, and in 1959 he was pardoned as a commissioner for literature and history of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference. In 1968, Wang Yaowu died of illness at the age of 64, and his ashes were buried in the Babaoshan Revolutionary Martyrs Cemetery.
