Du Yuming's announcement of the Battle plan for Jinan was cold
In August 1948, Du Yuming, deputy commander of the Kuomintang army Xuzhou's "Suppression General", flew to Jinan, the capital of Shandong Province, to convey Chiang Kai-shek's plan for the Battle of Jinan to the troops of the 2nd Appeasement District, which was entrenched here. According to the plan, Xuzhou will mobilize 170,000 people from Huang Baitao, Qiu Qingquan, and Li Mi to wait for the east China Field Army at any time, and once the East China Field Army of the People's Liberation Army launches a siege of Jinan, it will immediately go north to reinforce, and join forces with Jinan's 100,000 defenders to encircle and annihilate the East China Field Army under the city.
The 270,000-strong battle plan was grand in scale, but after Du Yuming conveyed it, there was no optimistic reaction in the "conference room" of the 2nd Appeasement District Headquarters. At that time, the conference room not only included Wang Yaowu, commander of the 2nd Appeasement District, but also his deputy commander-in-chief Mou Zhongheng, Major General Luo Xinli, chief of staff of major generals, Gan Ji, deputy chief of staff of the major general, and directors of various divisions of the headquarters; although Du Yuming also threw out "heavy bombshells," claiming that during the Battle of Jinan, the Ministry of National Defense would take Jinan and Qingdao as the main bases and Beiping and Xuzhou as auxiliary bases, concentrate 162 fighters and 42 heavy bombers to bomb the siege troops, blocking troops, and rear transport lines of the East China Field Army to ensure victory in the campaign.
