On September 12, 1948, the Liaoshen Campaign began. On October 14, 1948, the Tapping Jin Group launched a general offensive. After 31 hours of fierce fighting, Jinzhou was conquered on the 15th, annihilating more than 100,000 defenders, capturing Fan Hanjie and Lu Junquan, commander of the 6th Corps, and completely closing the gate for the Northeast Nationalist Army to withdraw from land to Guannei. After Jinzhou was captured, Zeng Zesheng, commander of the Kuomintang 60th Army trapped in Changchun, led more than 26,000 people to revolt on October 17, 1948 under the strong military pressure and political struggle of the Northeast Field Army. On the 21st, Changchun declared its peaceful liberation.

From October 29, the Northeast Field Army took advantage of the victory to march eastward and successively liberated Xinmin, Fushun, Liaoyang, Anshan, Haicheng and other outlying strongholds in Shenyang. On November 2, 1948, Shenyang, the largest heavy industrial city in northeast China, was liberated, and more than 130,000 defenders were annihilated. On the same day, Yingkou was liberated. The Liaoshen Campaign ended in victory.
