Xiao Yingtang was born in 1914 in Chang'an County, Shaanxi Province, the founding major general of the People's Republic of China, he joined the Chinese Workers' and Peasants' Red Army in February 1929, served as a platoon commander of the Seventh Regiment of the Third Division of the Red Army, and in 1933, served as the company commander of the Ruijin Red Army School, the commander of the Red Army Cadre Regiment, and the commander of the Third Section of the Infantry Division of the Red Army University.
In October 1934, the Central Red Army began the Long March, and he served as the commander of the Fifth Company of the Second Battalion of the Red Army University Cadre Regiment.

After the outbreak of the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea, he served as the commander of the 65th Army of the Volunteer Army, and in 1951 he led the 65th Army to fight in the DPRK, and engaged in a face-to-face contest with the US-ROK coalition army armed to the teeth, playing the prestige of the volunteer army.
He later served as Deputy Chief of Staff of the Chinese Volunteer Army.
